“Bear cave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Had a great Mexican platter that was authentic Mexican food. the waitress was really nice and quick. I liked the outdoor patio and will visit there next year and have a cool drink by the water fountains.

“We enjoyed it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We went on a Thursday night this summer, as we'd been swimming at Balmorhea all day and were staying at the state park. I wasn't sure how this would go based on the reviews, but the choices are pretty much non-existent in Balmorhea. SO, we went and actually had a great experience! I'd wanted to sit on the nice patio, but they weren't seating on the patio that evening, so we sat inside (probably a plus for my husband who hates being the least bit warm). Quick service, great waitstaff, & the food was excellent. Restrooms were also nice and clean. We had two little ones in tow and they enjoyed their dinners and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. We'd definitely go back when we are out that way, because as far as restaurants go that far out it was pretty good.

“No salsa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

We arrived at 6:45pm and had to wait until seven different groups of people paid their checks and left the restaurant before we were seated; a 30 minute wait. There was no one waiting in front or behind us for the entire 30 minutes - we were literally ignored for the first 20 minutes. The town apparently eats early; we were one of the last to arrive for dinner. We ordered a large meal for 7 persons. . We were very disappointed that despite ordering nachos and tortilla chips, we were told that they ran out and that the cooks were far too busy to prepare any salsa to go with the chips! How in the world does a Mexican restaurant run out of salsa by 7:15pm? After our entrees were served, we noted that other latecomers were being served salsa - the cooks apparently found time to make it, but it was never offered to us. This appears to be a recurring problem; other reviewers complain of the same thing. perhaps they should stock up on some Pace for emergencies...

The chili con queso was absolutely great! Try the Bear Claws: fried strips of jalapeno and onion with ranch dressing. The meal with drinks came to $180, which included a $30 tip, not a bad value considering the amount of food we ate.

If not for the lack of salsa and the slow seating time despite a half-empty restaurant, this would get 5 stars.

“OK Tex-Mex, Cold Beet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

Nice menu, but when I visited on a Monday evening they were out of several items. I ended up with a small order of nachos which was more than enough to eat and tasty, if unremarkable. The service was pretty slow, but the waitress was friendly. Fortunately, the salsa was spicy and the Bohemia was ice cold.

“Great food, cute restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We all had something different and the meals were all very good. Great prices, too! The service was good and really can't say anything bad about it. They have a good variety of food for all tastes.
