“Super comfy and exotic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

We adored this historic inn right on the Balmorhea, Texas, town creek, with clear, cold mountain spring water rushing by your front door when you step out on the unique cement deck. Even though an ephemeral creek, it would still be a kick to sit out in the cool mornings and evenings. Our room with bath was very clean, well appointed, and the bed was a very good rest. Listen, if you like your Gucci to match your Pucchi, then this ain't the hotel for you. For the rest of us who love authentic environments and don't mind the eclectic patios and rooms, it's a fine, fine little hotel that is quite peaceful and enjoyable. We'll stay there again as the host is a very nice person who is very responsive to any needs. Ah, Balmorhea...cool dry wind rushing down the mountains, wind chimes tinkling, and water gurgling--a truly sweet time capsule of a mountain town, reminiscent of simpler decades in this nation.

Room Tip: It is definitely more fun to be downstairs on the back by the creek. The sound of the creek--when at...

We tried reserving four rooms for a Saturday and the owner replied that it was not her policy to "rent" rooms for just Saturday because that left fewer available for people who wanted rooms for Friday and Saturday.

This is my hotel and you have published a rotten review, I have no way to respond and the people who reviewed the hotel were mistaken in their views. AC is not noisy, mattresses were almost new, sheets were not dirty and I am the old granny who bought the place 4 years ago and I am remodeling it. I cannot find the buckets of solidified paint they wrote about. The are welcome to go to the motel down the street and pay 159.00 per night. I would recommend it highly also. I was under the impression they wanted every discount known to walmart and AArp. I looked up their reviews and evidently they slam a lot of places. We are not fancy, we are clean and have new beds and linens. Shame on you

The good: They have WiFi, which was a nice surprise. The shower has both hot and cold water.

The Bad: Moths swarming the lamp, red ants crawling over my body at night, bug bites in the morning, filthy sheets cover a dilapidated mattress. The floor is sealed/painted concrete, with the exception of the bathroom which has urine soaked carpet. The noisy window A/C blows a strong fridged breeze straight onto the bed - we needed to stack luggage in front of it to keep from freezing. Rooms open to the highway and vehicles with no mufflers roar by in the middle of the night; even with Valium I could not get any sleep. I have no idea why others rate this better than terrible; "cozy" equals tiny.

The ugly: The manager's "office" is a hoarder's delight - stuffed with dust-covered junk such as stuffed bobcats to buckets of solidified plaster/paint that never got applied to whatever was the last real remodeling project that happened maybe 40 years ago. There is a table that acts as the desk stacked with papers - the Jack-of-all-trades helper needed a few minutes to dig through them to find the credit card machine. The old granny that runs the place is a chain smoker - she doesn't open the windows in order to keep the A/C and smoke in. She hands out towels that reek of her cigarettes.

Locals highly recommend the "specialty" motel up the road that has a Spanish name and a nice Mexican restaurant right next door; it is also the closest to the State park on the road running out of town. We have friends that stayed there and were very pleased. It books up first.

I liked this motel because it feels very cozy and comfortable. It is quiet and calm, has its own unique look but nothing fancy. We stayed at this hotel to visit the balmorhea park and we had forgotten our towels and after check out the lady was nice enough to lend us some. The price is fair and there's no complaints. Just keep in mind there is no phone in the room.

Motel was easy to find. I was concerned with clutter, yet I realized they were remodeling. Room was nice. Back of motel where our rooms was there is a canal where water flows with chairs by rooms. A BBQ grill, patio with strings of lights and misters kept it comfy. A few big turtles were housed In a tree by canal. With the price and location it was definitely a great stay!

We have stayed here twice and every time we truelly enjoyed the stay because it might not be the Hyatt but your treated like royality by the owner Mrs Lewis. And you can't beat the prize and clean rooms.
