“Blissful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

I just returned from a fabulous girls trip... Celebrating our 50th birthdays! It was truly just perfect! Even though we arrived in a downpour to discover there was no electricity, the staff didn't even flinch. They told us to just park at the entrance of the dining room and leave keys in the car. The kitchen was running on a generator and we were served a delicious brunch.

We left satisfied and found our car had been completely unloaded into our room...3 women have Lots of luggage! While still powerless, we followed a friends suggestion to get a puzzle. It was Incredible! There were shapes within shapes - and no picture to follow!

Eventually power was restored and we were treated to gourmet food, beautiful scenery, and complete customer service. Definitely 5 stars!

We return to this amazing property every year or so. It is in the middle of "nowhere" but has views that are breathtaking. The Farm is over 4,000 acres of rolling hills with various animals scattered about (horses, llamas, sheep, etc.) & an amazing garden which sustains the delicious
meals which are included in the room price. The garden is "tended" by John Coykendall, master gardener, who has a wealth of knowledge & one of the most interesting people to talk with about fruits, vegetables, etc. Taking his tutorial on beans is worth it.
The dinners are delicious and served in a barn that has been assembled from various old barns in the east. The setting is delightful and the service provided by Guido & Timothy was first rate! All of the dishes we tried were perfectly prepared using veggies, etc. from John's garden & the fish, meat, chicken was good to perfection. It is one of those places you walk away from & think about it until next time!
Our problem is with the breakfast (food is very good) and lunch (food is average) & wait staffs in both which are sometimes painfully slow and seemed perplexed by simple questions about the menu. We think their demeanor sometimes distracts from the food which may be the reason we are complaining & have only given the property 4 stars. It really is the best "hotel" food in the country and with a couple of tweaks, we're sure it will be perfect!
Cell phone service on the property is spotty at best which causes problems when trying to conduct a bit of business with fun. They are adding a new spa facility and other improvements so we are hoping by our next visit in a year or two, someone will have figures out their communications system & bring it up to date.

Room Tip: We stay in the hill cottages which are expensive but we love the privacy and large facilities. Lucy...

There's just nothing like it. The rolling hills, the southern charm, the luxurious rooms, the breathtaking wine program, the stellar food... Blackberry Farm is the epitome of excellence.

From the moment the concierge contacts you to help guide you through the choices for your visit to the subtle surprises you encounter in everything from your bedroom to your car as you leave, the team at Blackberry Farm has thought of everything.

The staff is incredibly professional while exuding hospitality. The activities suggested around the Smoky Mountains are innovative and different. Blackberry Farm will actually recalibrate how you think about a vacation.

Unfortunately, it will also skew your ability to find another property like it. Well done!

My wife and I spent a few days (June 30-July 2, 2013) at Blackberry Farm. I've read comments that it may have feel pretty slow but I think they missed the point as I did at check in. When you arrive you will notice that your cell phone is pretty useless and I originally thought why wouldn't they have addressed that especially with who must visit. However, by the end of the day I realized that spending a few days without the phone with your spouse is exactly what every couple needs. There is ample WIFI in every building but spending quiet time and just talking to each other without interruptions reminded me why we got married 11 years ago. The setting is truly enjoyable to just "be together."

The food was as I expected fantastic. We did "A Dinner Afield" and they set up the most spectacular setting for us. I'll post a picture. We ate a great dinner and had a server dedicated just to us who went back and forth for every course so it would be freshly made. The whole time we never saw a soul while eating. Dinners can take awhile so just relax and enjoy the pace. This is not a place to rush.

The grounds are fantastic for walking and hiking as we found out, but most grab a golf cart to get around. Just ask and they will have one waiting. There are a lot of activities but you do have to pay for most of them so be prepared not to think about a budget vacation because this isn't.

We stayed in a cottage and it was very nicely decorated. We did a rose petal turn down service and guys if you want to score points definitely do this for your wife. I won't tell too much because it is a great surprise to see.

If you couldn't tell, this can definitely be an over the top trip if you let it be. I am tough on resorts usually in reviewing them but this one deserves a great review. My wife and I definitely will go again.

(By the way, the wine list book is something to see. It probably is 500 pages long.)

Room Tip: The cottages are very nice and roomy.

I recently visited Blackberry farm on a girls trip with my aunt. Driving up to the entrance of the farm I was overcome by the natural beauty. The Farm could not be more charming. The room was lovely and had a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains. It room was located within a cabin which had a wonderful common seating area where we could all congregate, and was well stocked with refreshments. The food in the restaurants was extraordinary and plentiful. The staff at Blackberry Farm is beyond compare. Probably the most friendly and helpful I have encountered anywhere. We couldn't have been welcomed more warmly. This is a place to explore nature in all it's glory so be sure to bring comfortable shoes because you'll want to see every inch of it. I for one can't wait to return.

Room Tip: From what I saw, there are no bad rooms to be had. It is perfection.

We discovered Blackberry Farm about 10 years ago, and have returned between 1 - 3x per year. Coming from Phoenix, AZ, that is not easy, but with a bit of work, we can fly into TYS (Knoxville Airport, about 15 miles away).

We have only stayed in the Singing Brook Cottages, starting the first year that they were opened. At first, we were not quite sure what to expect. Their long-time chef had just left, and no one had reviews on the new replacement. While they have a lovely Web site, being an advertising photographer, I know what can be done to make things look a bit better, than they are.

Well, we were in for a very pleasant surprise - at every level. Our last dozen stays have revolved around culinary and/or wine events, the most recent being their Hospice du Rhône, May, 2013. The event was, as all have been, great, but what makes it all so very special is Blackberry Farm itself, and the fantastic staff. From the moment that we see the white fence on W. Miller's Cove Road, all of the troubles of our world start to dissolve. We spend a great deal of time in Hawai`i, and the term "Island time" is used a lot. Well, we find that there is "Blackberry Farm time." Everything slows down (except for the pace of the service staff, who are always busy, making our stay perfect), or even seems to stand still. Nothing is rushed, from the three meals a day, to the wine service. Ultimate quality is their goal, and they accomplish that everywhere. Just relaxing in a rocking chair on the patio outside of the Dogwood Bar (Main House), is an anticipated endeavor for us.

I cannot comment on any of the other accommodations, besides the Singing Brook Cottages, as we have never stayed elsewhere on the property. There are "lodge rooms," plus other cottage arrangements, and maybe some day we will try one of those. The Singing Brook Cottages are very spacious, extremely quiet, well-appointed and, most of all, comfortable. They feel like home to us.

The breakfasts are served in the Main House Dining Room, and lunch is often there, or on the patio outside too. Dinners are served in The Barn (with the exception of some event meals, which are in the Main House). Chef Joseph Lenn focuses on fresh ingredients, with many coming from the property - Blackberry Farm IS a working farm, and one really MUST tour it with John Coykendall, Master Gardner. Chef Lenn, a recent James Beard award winner, blends Southern & Foothills Cuisine with many modern techniques. Most of what isn't sourced from the property, comes from near-by.

Blackberry Farm's wine program is truly outstanding, with a cadre of sommeliers, and an astounding cellar.

The culinary and wine services would garner 3 Michelin stars in Europe or the UK.

We travel to luxury resorts around the world, and Blackberry Farm is still our paradigm.

Room Tip: If one plans on doing all three meals in a day, they must pace themselves, as quantities are rather...

On a trip from NC to Nashville, on May 19, 2013,we stopped at Blackberry Farm since we had heard so much about it. The staff was terrific and very attentive and there were many of them. Our dinner was fantastic and the knowledgeable sommelier was wonderful with his wine selection. Breakfast was good if not great and the box lunch they provided us for our road trip was a whole lot better than the Golden Arches.
It was our room that greatly disappointed, especially for the price. We were in the main building and had a king bed about 10 feet off the floor, difficult for a short person like me to get into. The next morning I was awakened by vibrations from the a/c and exhaust units right outside our window. Not pleasant. Although the view was superb, the noise was not. Plus the toilet backed up.
We did not participate in any other activities on the farm but were hit with a $300 "tax" when we checked out. This was not anticipated nor told us when we booked the room. All told, a room stay was not worth the money but we'd go back for the food. Since we live on the West Coast, I doubt that will happen.

Room Tip: Stay away from the roof in the front of the main building. I imagine the individual cottages are muc...
