This is our second visit to Wilderness, and it won't be our last! Our trip was planned to celebrate the 13th birthday of our middle child. Although check in time is at 4pm, we were advised at booking that we could actually check in anytime after 12pm and enjoy the waterpark. We arrived at 1:30 and the check in process was speedy, taking less than 5 minutes. Our free parking passes were obtained without a hassle. We changed into bathing attire in the locker room and played in the waterpark. Was notified by cell phone that our room was ready early at 2:45. Oh, did I mention that our room request was honored, too!
The waterpark was busy but certainly not crowded. I would have really appreciated a longer line for the slides & raft rides - hiking up 3 flights of stairs without pause repeatedly got me out of breath in a hurry, but the longest wait time (or rest time for us older folks) was 5 minutes, certainly not enough time for me to recuperate! The "children" in our group ranged in age from 5 to 19, and altlhough the outdoor waterparks were closed for the season, the indoor Waterdome had plenty to keep everyone having fun. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the waterpark area, as well as the friendliness of the staff. This trip, everyone tried the Flowrider, which simulates surfing/bodysurfing. The wait time was about 25 minutes. The staff working this area were very patient and offered lots of advice and help to make sure everyone had fun. Everyone in our group had so much fun they went back for a second turn. My only criticism of the waterpark is the inconsiderate behavior of some of the other guests in the large hot tub area. It is really an area meant for relaxation and not rowdy horseplay! A little more supervision would have been welcomed.
We stayed in a One Bedroom Deluxe, which is actually two separate rooms with sleeping provisions for 10, 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen totally furnished, and a dining table that seats 6. The door between the rooms can be locked for privacy, and the second room has a large minifridge, microwave, coffee maker, small table for 2, and a tv (in addition to the bathroom and beds). The rooms were very clean. I slept on the Murphy bed, which was quite comfy. Everyone else said they were comfy and slept well. My only critique is that the curtains allow WAY too much light in when one is trying to sleep. I should have brought my slumber mask. The only problem I experienced during our visit was the lack of a frying pan, and within 5 minutes of my phone call to the front desk, a friendly woman appeared with a cake pan and a baking sheet. Oops! When I explained that I needed a frying pan (she had been told I needed a baking pan), she promptly returned with 2! I love the full kitchen as it really is a money-saver - we had dinner and breakfast that was much cheaper and healthier than eating in a restaurant would have been. We brought food from home in an ice chest, but there is a grocery store about a mile from the hotel. Although you have to check out by 11am, you are free to enjoy the waterpark for the remainder of the day. Love this place! Great for families!
