I have stayed with Cabin Fever Vacation on four occasions over the past 6 years, each time I stayed in a different cabin. Overall, the cabins have been good with a couple having specatular views but customer service has always been a bit lacking. The issues haven't been enough to keep me from booking again, I guess the great views, privacy, and decent value keep me going. But don't expect them to bendover backwards or go out of their way to correct an issue. I have looked at other Cabin companies and hotels in the area but none really impressed me. Below is a legnthy review of my experience with Cabin Fever Vacations for the last two stays:
Starting with the Most Recent:
Day Dreams and Night Things-March 2009
This cabin is located is one of the resort area's. Basically, meaning there are several others cabins very close by. In the past, we have always stayed in cabins that were a bit more private. Had we known how many cabins were around this one and how the streets were setup we would have picked a different cabin.
The Good- The cabin was clean upon arrival, it was in a very convenient location, and actually had a very comfortable bed. It had a very nice sunset view but not the best view available in the Cabin Fever line-up.
The Bad-Cabins are right on top of one another, you can easily see what people in the other cabins are doing both IN the cabin and on the porch. It would be OK for families and large groups but if you are looking for a romantic mountain getaway or a more secluded location, stay away from this one.
Absolutely Perfect-Memorial Day Weekend of 2007
The Good-It was very private, other cabins in the area but none that were within 200 plus feet. This cabin is VERY high up in my opinion so the views were good at this cabin. Cabin was clean. My wife loved the swing on the deck and while I cooked on the grill. This cabin actually had a gas line right to the grill which was awesome! Most other cabins do not have gas grills. Also, cabin is located in gated community which makes you feel a bit more secure.
The Bad-Upon a very long drive from the Cabin Fever Reservation office to the cabin, the code I was given for the Gate did not work so I couldn't even get into the community. To make things worse, at the time there was no cell phone reception is this particular area so, what is one to do?? After several attempts at the gate I had to get on the ground in my nice clothes and get filthy, walk all the way to the cabin and call Customer Service. The girl's response was, "Well, I don't know what to tell you that's the only code we have" after several minutes of making this lady understand I am not driving 40 minutes back to the office and I CANNOT even get into the community. I decided to just give up and go back to my car. Good Luck had struck, a gentleman who actually lives up there gave me his personal code and I was able to get in, Thank GOD! This cabin is very out of the way, I like private and secluded but don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere. This is an example of what you can expect from customer service. I wasn't asking for anything for free or anything other than four numbers to the gate so I can enjoy my vacation that I already paid in full for
In closing, most of the cabins they have are very vice. Be cautious of renting cabins that are in "resort" areas, as well as very out of the way cabins. Also, if you notice the cabin you will be staying in has not be occupied for sometime prior to your arrival, be prepared for it to very dusty. You can tell the cleaning crews only give these cabins the once over and maybe deep clean every year or so. Also, it is hit or miss if the hot tub works. I have had issues with the Hot Tubs and the best they offer is to TRY and get a maintanence person up to your Cabin within a couple of days. Again, goes back to customer service not really trying.
I have a very high stress career and work with people everyday so on vacations my wife and I both enjoy private time away from other people so we can de-stress and just do nothing and that's what keeps me going back. You cannot get the type of privacy at a hotel or even some other cabins. It's all what you make of it. Yes, there are some customer service issues with this company, but I guess for me while they bother me at the moment I quickly look at the view and try to let it go. I have never had an issue that has been just over the top. Issues you are going to have where ever you may go. I will say there are some Cabins that are just out of this world, great for family reunions and a one of a kind Smoky Mountain experience.
I hope everyone finds the review helpful, it is just an honest account of the good and bad.
