“Fun weekend in Nashville”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel with a few exceptions All we did was sleep there as we left the hotel by 11am and never got back until midnight. We never used any of the facilities or the restaurants. The hotel lobby is beautiful, our room on the 4th floor was large and well kept. I was a bit concerned about noise since we were over the main entrance of the hotel and right beside the elevator but never heard anything. Also did not hear any trains but our travelling companions were on the 2nd floor and heard trains at least 3 times during the night. So unless you are a very sound sleeper ask for higher rooms facing away from the tracks.

Room was lovely, large and clean with very nice toiletries (I agree with another traveller, really liked the toothbrush holder), only thing missing were the robes and a do not disturb sign also towels were a bit worn.

My major complaint was the bed (room 403) was very very soft and I woke up with severe back pains that are still bothering me a week later. So that would really be my only issue.

Hotel was only about 5 blocks from all the action on Broadway, very manageable walk. Front door staff were friendly and helpful in getting taxis. The taxi drivers that we had (Grand Old Opry and out to the Belle Mead Plantation and airport) were hit and miss. Some could not speak English and had no ideal where they were going and relied on wrong GPS directions. My husband always sat in the front seat to help them. Nashville is not that big so I was surprised that taxi drivers were so lost.

Room Tip: High room away from tracks

Stayed for a weekend in this great city and heard that this was an excellent hotel with character. Not disappointed as the building is historically beautiful. Because it is a historic building, however, means that it has its quirks such as one small elevator and our 1 bedroom suite came with a shower but not a tub (would have been nice to have been asked by the front desk if this was okay as my partner prefers baths). The room was especially large with 15ft ceiling heights. The service was prompt and formal, but not overly friendly. Only disappointment and not entirely a fault of the hotel was that we stayed under a romantic package offered by the hotel which included breakfast at the hotel restaurant and Champagne and strawberries brought to our room each evening. The issue is that our room was next to a couple of screaming, fighting and rude teenagers and one floor beneath a family with a toddler who appeared to like jumping off the furniture onto the floor. We called the front desk to complain to no avail

Room Tip: If want a room with a tub, need to ask before checking in if your room has one or only has a shower...

Passing on a trip trough the Mid & South West we visited Nashville and lived in the Union station hotel for two nights. The building alone already justifies a stay, but also service and rooms were ok (we got suite 604 at 6th floor - highly recommended). Unfortunately we can not really recommended the in-house restaurant "Prime 108" (we ordered fish main courses).

We had a fantastic one-night stay here in connecting rooms on the first floor. Trains ran just outside our window, but we thought that added to the atmosphere of an historic train station turned into a lovely hotel. Rooms were a bit small, but very comfy. Loved that the bathroom included, among other things, a toothbrush holder--you just don't see that! Nice toiletries. They need new towels, but not a big deal.
We inquired at the desk about the hotel and were treated to an impromptu personal tour by the manager who explained the history and preservation of the hotel. What a treat! He truly loves the hotel and was eager to share about it.
Breakfast was expensive, but delicious and FAST. The dining room is very impressive with high ceilings, stone fireplace and stained-glass windows.
Only niggle was that the bellman did not have our car loaded and ready to go at the time requested. We were on a tight schedule and felt a bit frantic when we realized our bags hadn't even been retrieved from our rooms yet. They need to tighten up the valet/bellman service connection.
We would definitely stay here again. Loved it.

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms have high ceilings and overlook the lobby!

Very nice classic hotel which is walking distance to the downtown bar scene. The hotel is elegant as you walk through its beautiful lobby and to your room. There are plenty of great restaurants and bars nearby too.

Room Tip: If you are train freak make sure to get a room with a view of the trains passing by

First of all, let me say all that was right with this hotel: the lobby area is spectacular! The ceiling of the lobby is worth stopping in to see even if one isn't staying at the hotel. Cheese and crackers were in the lobby when we arrived late afternoon--a lovely touch. Check-in was flawless, attendants most polite. When we reached our room, a quite-nice amenity package was waiting: the best-smelling soap, shampoo, coffee, etc. Water was also complimentary. Towels were the softest I've ever felt.

For the price we paid for the room, I had high expectations! (We had just stayed at the Inn at Biltmore in Asheville, NC, and THAT hotel was spectacular and about one-third less expensive.)
The room at Union Station was quite small, even though the windows were tall and window treatments were lovely; I could actually sit in the windows! But, again, for the price we paid--well over $300--I expected the "little touches" to be perfect. Alas, they weren't. In the bathroom, "black substance" was over the window. In the closet, there was only one bathrobe--two of us were staying. There were two mirrors but BOTH were in the bathroom! Tough to get ready for a wedding without a mirror in the actual room. The lampshade had holes in it, and the bed skirt was stained. Water had been left in the iron, the clock was wrong, and we ran out of tissues. The little things DO make a difference...

About one's first impression at arrival, the valets appeared rumpled--not sharp and neatly uniformed. And the poor little flowers along the entrance fence--pitiful and anemic. All in all, the people were quite nice, but the hotel just wasn't quite "over and above," -- what one would expect for what was paid. All in all, I'm surprised that Marriott allows their name to be used to advertise this historic hotel. We will not stay again.

Me husband and I stayed at this Hotel together on our anniversary weekend. The lobby is lavish, the views from the room are great. Southern style country service, just what I love! It was very romantic. The rooms are a little high, but that is expected and we didn't mind splurging on our special night. Overall, I was very pleased.
