“Great meals!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We were so happy with our first meal here that we went back again. Our food was excellent, and even more than that our server, Nicholas, was amazing. We were celebrating a birthday and his recommendations were spot-on and his service was above & beyond. We asked to sit in his station on our second visit and had another great meal and time. We LOVED the fried green tomato appetizer and the mint julep was awesome! It's in one of the atrium areas and it is loud with a lot of activity. If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, this isn't the place for you. It is expensive, but we had a great time.

“Mid afternoon lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Had a mid day lunch and some drinks to relax from our travels. It is a Very relaxing setting with the sounds of the water and beautiful landscaping. Food was average for the pricing but prepared well.

“Best dining experience in ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Let me start by saying, we are difficult. We have multiple, difficult food allergies. I simply don't eat out because I usually can't. The Cascades made it not only possible, but comfortable. I started with a phone call to verify they could accomodate our needs. They were knowledgable and assured me of not only their ability to accomodate, but the double checks on contamination, etc. We made a reservation. They noted the allergies on the reservation as well as the special occaision we were celebrating.
Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and our waiter, Nicholas, was awesome. He asked about our allergies, took notes and confered with the chef about options. He picked up on any hesitation we showed and would ask the chef for clarification. Not once was he frustrated because "you really want to know what kind of salt we use?" Instead, he was excited to learn why we would question the salt and now he knows the answer for future guests. This was the most comfortable dining experience I can remember with food allergies, the first time I was truely at ease with someone other than myself preparing a meal for us. He even worked with the bar to find a special drink that was fun, non-alcholic and safe for our daughter to drink to celebrate her birthday.
At the end of our meal, he would normally have brought a dessert for the birthday celebration. However, he had already checked with the chef and knew that would not work. Instead, he brought a bowl of fresh fruits for her to enjoy. It was simple luck that her favorite fruits were on the plate, but the thoughfullness to look ahead and find a solution when so many would have stopped at "Sorry our desserts won't work for you" was the pinnacle of service.
My only regret, we did not try them until our last night in Nashville.

“Good food, nice variety. Not stellar, ok for hotel food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Visited the Gaylord, seemed like a lovely setting. Had great service from Mandi. The menu was varied, nice apps, salads, sandwiches and mains, many with local roots. The bonus is that there is also a full sushi menu, for purists and "roll eaters". Nice to have the variety available.

There is a special drink menu, including "mock tails", which would be great for kids. I had a "fauxito", a mojito without alcohol and with grapefruit juice. Wonderful.

Lunch was Manhattan clam chowder, ordinary and overpriced. Two salads, mixed greens, beets, walnuts and "goat cheese", which was actually feta. Added grilled shrimp to both for $8. About 6 shrimp, cooked perfectly and tasty. The dressing for the salads was more mustard than anything else. Other diner had a catfish "po boy" sandwich, very good. Tasty fried catfish on a roll, served with good fries.

Lunch was expensive, and ok. There were nice touches, but not stellar.

“EXPENSIVE but nice atmosphere!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

This restaurant is inside the Cascades area at the Opryland Hotel. It is beautiful and the waterfalls are amazing. The hotel "book" described it as typical american food...it was not! It was what I call Foo Foo food. Very large prices, very small servings on very large plates with servers who expect big tips. I won't eat there again but will enjoy the views of the waterfalls and gardens.
