We stayed here for the annual Ralley Day (homeschool function) and we were quite pleased. I had read other reviews that made this place sound bad, and I was a bit nervous with the Motel pics I was seeing on the internet. We arrived at 8:30pm and as we pulled in were greeted with a Valet. The valet is for parking only and did not help us with our luggage, but they keep plenty of carts on hand for guests to unload on, and one was offered to us. Since there is only one Valet on duty this makes sense, and I'm more of a self serve type anyway.
The lobby was well appointed with big leather sofa's, a variety of hot coffee, and a big computer for checking your email. The desk staff were friendly. Off of the lobby is an adjoining mini-mart that is part of the building (faces 7th). We were able to load up on junk food for crashing in front of the TV later on. We asked for extra bedding and they brought it up immediately. We spent time socializing a bit in the lobby. From the lobby you can go up the stairs or take the elevator. I like that you have to go through the lobby to get to the rooms - so even though it is a motel style - it is safe. The lobby has two people minimum in it 24x7. Stairs and elevator both open up to an open air hallway whatever floor you are on. It was a bit cold for March, but we expected this.
The room was indeed small - but what do you expect for 90 bucks smack in the middle of down town. it was nicely decorated and looked to be recently remodeled. All of the bathroom and dressing area appeared to be brand new and were high quality. The furniture and bedding also appeared to be new. The mattress was not too soft - but pillowy on top for comfort. The pillows were very nice (down?) and they had a down comforter. The desk had a nice office quality chair and plug ins on the lamp for your desktop. I carry my own internet so I don't know what they offer there.
We stayed up late watching Cake Boss then everyone crashed and I took my computer downstairs to work since I had some crunch time to get in. I stayed in the lobby for a while. The computer station in the lobby was very comfortable and the staff was accommodating.
I slept very well - but the reviews about noise are true. You can hear every footstep on the walk ways (especially boots and high heels) and all the traffic on the street. I'm a hard sleeper though and the hum of the AC drowns most of that out.
Free breakfast the next day was surprisingly good. Includes boiled eggs, oatmeal, fresh waffles, cereal, fruit, etc. Checkout was easy and the valet was prompt. Although the valet is free, I tipped them both times. Again - be prepared to handle your own luggage.
This place is not the Sheraton, but it's also not 170 bucks (I paid 84 on Expedia) and you don't pay 20 bucks a day to park!!! If you are planning on visiting Nashville and will be on the go - or are economy minded - then this is the perfect spot. It is within walking distance of everything downtown. I was happy with the service, the rooms were smallish, but newly remodeled and clean. Free breakfast, free valet parking, and a gym!! I will be staying here next year on Rally day. Next time, though, I may get a sound machine from Brookstone to drown out the city noise.
