“DESK CLERK NEED A "PR CLASS"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

I had made this reservation months in advance, yet when checking in the hotel clerk tried to charge me much more as there was an event at the convention center. I had my copy of the reservation with a total price and a confirmation #...yet she continued to stand by her decision. I finally did get her to call a manager who did convince her that she needed to honor my reservation. She was very rude and I would not stay here again. Also the parking is done by attendants and cars are double and triple parked, so it may take quite awhile to get your car.

We booked this hotel for its location and it wasn't as great as we thought it would be for the money. It was close to downtown bars/restaurants, but a bit too far to walk in the cold. And, we didn't realize until after we got there that the doors to the rooms are on the outside of the building, meaning lots of street noise. And when you are downtown, the noise is pretty much unavoidable, but probably would've been buffered a bit more had the hotel not been motel style. The walls/floors were also paper thin and we could actually hear every step that someone made above us, making it very hard to sleep. Overall, it was clean and did the job for a one-night stay, but I would definitely not stay there for longet than that.

Arrived on a Saturday without a reservation in a very busy city!. Secured accomodation at Best Western in its downtown location. Although we could not use discount vouchers they were still happy to allow a discount (10%) and rate was fairly reasonable. Valet parking included, helpful staff, clean/comfortable room. Easy walk to entertainment area (all the bars with free live music plus so many restaurants. Would stay again, but book ahead on-line.

Room Tip: Ask for room at rear; its light and not noisy.

Stayed two nights and was close to most everything we needed. Price was the best for downtown but be sure to include the valet parking . Overall a good stay.

When I go to Nashville it is to do research at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. I don't like to spend $200 a night and in the downtown / convention area, that leaves the Best Western. They try to look like the "real deal" with some kind of a small work out room, and a 2nd floor breakfast area. The "liquor store" next door is accessible through the lobby. The breakfast is basically your choice of cold cereal or bisquits and gravy. Rooms open to outside corridors, and the nights I was there, it was so noisy because there was a Blue Grass Awards and several weddings. The staff is not rude by any means, but they don't go out of their way, either. If I return to do more research, I'll probably stay again, but only because my choices downtown are limited.

Dear Som Rev:

I have read your review and I do agree with some of the issues you may have experienced. In particular regarding noise and special events in downtown. Noise according to USA TODAY in last tuesday paper, is the number one complaint in downtown environments. As to the real deal, we are beginning the 1st phase of renovations and as this will take a few months to complete, this property will not only be the best value downtown but a very attractive hotel. It has been my goal since being commissioned at this property a couple of years ago, to get them to this point. Regarding customer service, we have just recently hired new front desk staff and valet attendants, in addition to other seasoned staff and a new Assistant General Manager who will be given the role of raising our service levels. Do I take these comments seriously, I do. Hopefully when the property is completed you will give us another try. I am sure your experience will be much better.

Thanks so much for your survey and business!

Best regards,

S. Lee

Wish we'd looked at the Tripadvisor reviews before we booked this hotel. I don't usually like to leave bad reviews, but this hotel really disappointed us. I'm a big fan of Best Western, as you are usually assured of a certain standard in whatever town you stay in. Yes, the location is fine, easy walk to all the sights in Nashville - but the hotel could do with pulling down and starting again, never mind a refurbishment. And it almost makes it worse to have the big sign in the lobby giving you an idea of what it might look like - just not now! Bathroom was tiny, train noise went on all night, I got bitten overnight by some bug, the bed was old and creaky, the linens seemed old and just not really clean. Everything 'worked' and there was nothing specific to complain about; we just curtailed our visit. Final straw was the bill - do they really need to add $1 'security tax' for having a safe in the room? The long list of taxes pushed the price up to where it was more expensive than the downtown Best Western hotels in Chicago and Houston - both of which offer free parking, by the way. Choose a different hotel and pay the cab ride into town!

Room Tip: I imagine the rooms further away from the train lines are slightly quieter.

Like many reviewers here, I agree that this is not going to be the most luxurious hotel you’re ever going to stay in. But let’s face it, when you’re in a town like Nashville, how much time are you going to spend in your room, anyway? The building is on the older side, but renovations are in the works which hopefully won’t jack the prices way up! The rooms are clean and well-appointed, and guess what? If you pull the pillow out of the decorative square formation – you will actually find a full-size pillow in there! The elevator is small and slow, but who couldn’t benefit from walking up a few flights of stairs after all that Barbecue?

The location can’t be beat, as you are just a few blocks from the bright lights of Broadway. We were a group of three women, and I can tell you that we never once felt nervous or scared at or around this hotel. Perhaps the other group of women who had such a negative experience with this hotel had never been to a city before! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, and the great hotel prices allowed us to use more money on fun & frolic than on a hotel room!
