Maybe it's because I was there during lunch time on a weekday, but this was a very placid place- a big shimmering lake with forested islands and not a lot of buzzy watercraft. Like so much around Nashville, it's densely wooded and just beautiful. The admission fee is $5 and worth it despite the litter all over the Public Use Area near the Elm Hill Marina. There are nice round concrete picnic tables and benches in the woods near the lake, but be alert for snakes in the undergrowth near the path to them. I didn't see a restroom anywhere, and the only trash receptacle was a nasty dumpster in the parking lot (hence the litter everywhere else).
Despite the trash it's worth the pleasant drive out Elm Hill Pike and down Bell Road, as well as the five bucks to go sit by the water amongst the cedars and hickories with a picnic.
