“Good but for fire precautions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

We had a great room with quiet air conditioning.
Most of the staff were pleasant and friendly, but I do object to taking second place to a phone when I have waited in line.
Maybe I should have just called with my question.
breakfast was cooked as well as cold foods, in a large dining area. Staff were great and very attentive to our needs.
The hotel run a free shuttle in the downtown area but be aware that " a few minutes" meant over 20 minutes on both occasions we used it.
The is a basement car park for $20 a night.
Our one big concern was the fire procedures when the alarm went off at 3 am
1 the alarm did not go off in the room so we barely heard it.
2 part of the fire procedures in the room were to ring the desk. We tried for some time and could get no reply.
But otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

This is the third year we have had our annual conference here. They have perhaps the best staff of any hotel I have stayed at regardless of price. The front desk, the ladies that clean the rooms, the guy with the towel carts, the guy changing out the food and seeing to our needs at the conference.....all were very friendly, courteous and pleasant. The rooms are probably in the average category due to age of the hotel, but the beds are comfortable and the rooms come with a refrig and microwave, so I gave them a very good rating. It has a stadium style meeting room with very comfortable chairs and a larger level room. We split our sessions between the rooms and I spent all of my time in the larger room. We also had our meals and our receptions in there with live music. We had a number of vendors in the hallways, and in a third room as well as a few around the outside of the larger room. Parking is minimal...some covered and some open. If you arrive early for a meeting, before that day's guests have checked out, you might have a hard time finding a place. I have not had a problem any of the last three years though. Morning USA Today papers are available in the lobby, along with apples and three (I think) computer terminals. Public bathroom was very clean...although it could use a privacy guard/panel for entry so as not to expose those already in there! They have a very helpful shuttle van that will take you anywhere within a mile, or maybe two. Though you can hear tvs as you walk down the hall, I did not hear anything once in my room. This is across from a Arts Museum, Union Station and LifeWay. It is walking distance down to the bars and hole in the wall music venues.

Room Tip: Higher floors for some view..lots of buildings around, so not a lot of view, but some.

There was a match on during our stay, so it was busy. It's at the top of Broadway and it is an easy walk down to the bars. Sadly the match meant we had some drunken idiots in the room adjacent to ours, so we had a rough night and drunks were outside the hotel in the morning yawping and shouting who went on to leave all their rubbish behind. (Not the fault of the staff.) I suppose had we paid more we would have had better neighbours. Staff were friendly and the free breakfast was appreciated. Disposable plates and cups but as much as you can eat. The other residents arriving to eat in their pyjamas was also a novelty. I guess my review is all about other guests, so do some research, if there is a sporting event on during your stay, you may wish to stay elsewhere. Be observant when arriving because the entrance comes up very quickly and is right on a junction with a small, tight parking space for those arriving.

Just spent two nights here over Veteran's Day weekend. The front desk check-in was fantastic. Deisy took care of us and could not have done more. We had 5 rooms on the fifth floor. The rooms were a good size and the bathroom was large and immaculate. The bed linens were clean and the beds were comfy. Deisy helped us with information on going out the first night and we all boarded the free shuttle and off we went. In the morning we had the free breakfast which was just fine. The breakfast room was larger than other Holiday Inns that I've stayed in and there were 2 breakfast lines and 2 pancake makers. We took out the car for the morning and Kelly at the desk was just wonderful to us. She printed out mapquest directions to all our sites and called about hours and questions we had. The hotel is less than 10 minutes from all the music and great restaurants. Just a quick walk down the street or the free shuttle that will pick you up after you call him and tell him where to come. On our last night the staff offered to print our boarding passes for us and handed them to us when we arrived back from the night out. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

The Holiday Inn Express as neat and clean. The hotel was within walking distance to all the bars. The front desk was very friendly. They gave us a map of the downtown area. They offered a free breakfast which was great. The parking was $20, but I think it was that much at all the hotels.

I normally love HI Expresses. Updated, great bedding, free breakfast, and Priority points! This one needed a makeover. The location was decent, near the end of the action in Broadway, but walkable. We paid nearly $250/night over a weekend, plus $20/day parking. Extremely overpriced, even for downtown. And that was for a prepay, non-refundable 1 King bed. At check-in near 5:30 pm, there was a guy playing guitar and a reception area with popcorn, cookies, and drinks. The hallways smelled like stale smoke, carpeting needs replaced, and doors were old and cheap, and I counted 6 different showers going on throughout the early morning, so the walls are pretty thin. The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was nice to have a microwave and small fridge. My husband was happy with the TV channels :) The breakfast area was nice enough and large, with 2 lanes going down each side, which speeds things up if there are convention groups. (which there were) They have pancake makers, scrambled eggs, ham or sausage, biscuits & gravy, cereals, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, pastries, and breads, juice & coffee. I would probably look for another hotel next time, but suprisingly, there didn't seem to be too many options.

The hotel was in need of some renovations in my opinion. The bathroom for sure was outdated and the carpeting was a bit old. First impressions are a big thing and the warm and fuzzy feeling was tossed out and exchanged for a grumpy attitude and pushiness of the woman who checked us in. If she doesn't like her job than maybe she needs to find another one. For $169 a night plus $20 parking fee (which was waived with a winning of a hotel scratch off ticket being a Priority Club Member) I was not overly pleased with the exception that it was within walking distance of the Broadway Strip and also The Flying Saucer for that around the World Beer Experience. Overall, we would look for another hotel in the area and even be willing to pay a few dollars more for a friendlier staff and a cleaner, updated bathroom.

Room Tip: Check on the $20 a hight parking at the downtown hotels. Some charge it and others don't.
