Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

The Belle Meade Plantation in a Nashville jewel. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The wine tasting at tour's end was a lot of fun.

“One of the best tours in Nashville”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

While the story behind the plantation doesn't have a happy ending, it is a far better story than that of the one you get at The Hermitage. Stark difference between those who were kind to their slaves compared to the horrible treatment the slaves received at the hands of President Jackson. This plantation was a race horse plantation, full of a rich history and racing blood lines that can be traced back to some of the most famous race horses in history; Horses so famous, even those who know little or nothing about horse racing are bound to have heard of some of them, if they paid attention in history class...The tour concludes in the on site winery, and includes a wine tasting.

“Belle Meade Plantation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

The Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, TN was nice but not outstanding. If you like to hear about Southern history in the 1800's it is a very informative tour. You should like horses though since most of the information is about the family and their love of the animal. It is worth the visit.

“Beautiful Historical Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

This was a great tour and we were able to see most of the home, except for the areas currently being restored. The tour guide was dressed in historical garb so that was fun. It was quite interesting and I would recommend it to anyone.

The wine tasting was nice, but it's all sweeter wine and the person pouring the wine was definitely trying to sell the wine as well as some of the other items in the store. Didn't buy any.

The drive from downtown Nashville was quick and easy and very pretty.
