“A piece of history you do not want to miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

When I was in school, I hated every minute I spent studying history. If I could have been fortunate enough to spend part of a day walking in the shoes of a legend listening to the details of his plantation's development as I did on this tour , I would have had a different perspective and appreciation.
While you are not allowed to cross the thresholds of the rooms off the great fall, you can see and appreciate history of the home and life of Old Hickory. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour the great experience it was. The furnishings are 90% original which is incredible
When we were turned loose on the outside of the home to tour the outbuildings the small hard drive listening devices were well worth using. The restaurant mentioned in promotionl literature is closed. There are many restaurants in the town about a mile away
I appreciate the movie and professional narration not creating Jackson into a mythical historical figure but a man with human frailties who overcame them in many instances while in others he was on the wrong side of history.

“Free Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

I'd been intending to visit since moving to Nashville but finally went when Regions Bank sponsored a free day. I got there early and probably spent about 3 hours touring the property. It was a relatively good amount of walking but I don't know what accomodation they have if that is an issue. I'd been interested in Andrew Jackson and I learned a lot more during this visit. Plenty of parking.

“Well done plantation tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

Interesting self paced tour of the plantation home of Andrew Jackson. Each person receives their own personal headset to listen to information about life at The Hermitage. Children listen to info geared especially to them, which was nice. The mansion allowed in groups of 10-12 at a time and the rooms were sealed by plexi-glass, which was a little disappointing, although understandable. Knowledge staff, dressed in period clothing, lead the tour of the mansion. The tour of the grounds was very hot, so go early on hot days. The grounds, including a formal garden were beautiful. The people that work at The Hermitage were extremely friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

“hermitage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

good time. Amazing how small it is inside. couldn't go in the rooms which was a dissapointment but it was a nice place to visit. When they have the re-enactments it is fun. Would like to see more interaction with visitors. so you can feel like you have gone back in time. (like plimouth plantation does.)
