“Bistro Restaurant: 'We Report, You Decide'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

While a review made at this date regarding a stay during this past April must be questioned as to its timeliness, I wish to make the focus of the review the Bistro Food and Beverage concept Marriott appears to be adopting throughout its Courtyard brand.

First, let's dispense with the basics regarding the April stay; room rate was simply a property of supply and demand as it is with any major brand chain hotel and was acceptable to me. Room cleanliness staff courtesy - all to Marriott standards. My auto was perfectly safeguarded with valet parking.

But now to the Bistro; I respect that Marriott is attempting to make use of the space allocated to Food and Beverage service more productive in that they can offer bar and restaurant service throughout the day. rather than the previous model of Breakfast only and with some locations offering Bar service. A further plus for the hotel is it would appear that when hosting events within their meeting rooms, they can now prepare on premises whatever a sponsor reasonably requires for the event. It would seem with the past Food & Beverage facility, they would have to go off premises for catering to such an event.

So much for this Guest's perception of the business plan, but I'm sorry, Mr. J.W, this Guest preferred the previous arrangement. I always have enjoyed the full service Buffet Breakfast that Courtyard has offered, which has always been on a par with that I have found at full-service Marriott branded properties (sorry; can't help you with JW or Four Seasons brands). Instead of full service, there is now a fast food restaurant experience of 'line up and pay up' (staff will bring your selection to your table). All told, the experience was disappointing.

While this property had always offered bar service, the Bar was 'tucked away' in a small nook, and I will bet that some guests desiring a Nightcap were unaware it was there. The more visible location of the Bar should only enhance a converted Courtyard property's beverage sales.

Let's simply close this review with a media outlet's one time tagline - 'We report, you decide'.

Stayed 5 nights. The front desk staff was personable and very helpful. Our room was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. One of the elevators was down for most of the week but did cause any real hardship. The shuttle service was marvelous, Oscar and Coach were very helpful. Waits for short. One evening, Heidi from the front desk picked us up when the driver was on break. We had breakfast in Café two mornings and it was very good.

The location of this courtyard is great - close to shopping and restaurants at the West End. The rooms are not as "sound proof" to outside noise - a lot of construction going on in downtown Nashville - a good thing! The hotel staff is one of the best I have experienced - very customer focused. Mediocre on comfort of room and amenities.

Room Tip: Ask for the newer building tower

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. Yes, there is quite a bit of outside noise in Nashville - whether it is from new construction or one of Music City's famous live band venues. Though we cannot control the outside noise, we do offer complimentary ear plugs and also have sound machines to help our guests get a good nights rest. We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and thank you for compliment. We look forward to having you stay with us again in the near future!

We stayed here to be close to downtown, but avoiding the really high prices of the downtown hotels. Marriotts have always been a hotel of choice for us, and this one proved to be pretty much worthy. Highpoints include a friendly, helpful staff, nice location, quiet and clean room where everything worked, comfortable room, shuttle service to downtown. A few lowpoints were the size of the room, much smaller than a typical Courtyard, and having to pay $16/day (plus tax on that fee) to park! The Bistro provided good breakfast options for a reasonable price, but was understaffed. They Bistro has a Starbucks as part of it, and having a few of those foo-foo coffee drinks in the que prior to your order really slowed things down when trying to just get some "grab and go" food items. The shuttle was good in concept, but have patience. We took it once to go downtown, and had to wait about 30 minutes for it return. Then it filled with several groups of people who wanted to go the completely different direction, so it took another 30 minutes plus for us to be dropped off. Pick-up (for which you call the hotel and they come and get you), was fairly quick, though. I imagine it is the luck of the draw. Still, nice to have, as we parked downtown once and paid $30!!

All in all a good choice, walking distance to several good restaurants, and walking to Centennial Park, where the Parthenon is, which is worth seeing.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor at the end, and it was very quiet.

I really enjoyed staying here. It's been my favorite in the Vanderbilt area so far.

The desk staff were friendly and efficient as were the folks working in The Bistro, their small restaurant/bar. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The HVAC was noticeably quieter than anywhere else I've stayed, and I really appreciated that.

There were a couple of things that keep me from giving the Courtyard Vanderbilt 5 stars. First, I could hear people in the outdoor bar next door. That was kind of annoying as it got later. Second, the restaurant doesn't open until 7:30 am which seemed really late to me. The food and service were good but it makes it difficult for someone who has to be up and about early.

All things considered, though, to date this is the best place I've stayed in the area. Definitely recommended.

Spent this past weekend here. Everything was fine- room and hotel was clean, bed comfy, shower pressure and a/c were excellent.

Location great - half mile to Vanderbilt campus.

Easy in and out of parking garage ( $16/nt).

No complaints at all.

Room Tip: Tower 2 is closer to the parking garage.

We were in Nashville for the Taylor Swift concert and since we had never been there before we stayed 2 nights. Upon check-in at 2:00 am, we were first given the wrong room then our TV would not work. A maintenance man came up & stated "it's broken"! The hotel did right by us financially & they fixed the tv in the morning so much was forgiven. The front-desk assistant GM was very sweet and courteous and that means allot. The bed was so-so & we were in a renovated room. Parking a bit steep at $16 a night. I guess I just expect more from Marriott.
