“Strong showing, a few misteps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

I just stayed here last week for a quick conference at Vandy. It was overall very nicely done. The front desk staff was very friendly and got everything taken care of in pretty short order. The hot breakfast every day was a clear perk and is one of the key selling features for Hampton Inn's. The location is absolutely impeccable in terms of proximity to not only Vandy, but also to Centennial Park, which is a lovely place to get some air and enjoy nature without going too far. It's also very convenient to a lot of really good food - including Calypso Cafe, which isn't on their recommended nearby food list, although it's QUITE good and very healthy.

My only complaints were in the details. For instance, while the bathroom was clean overall, there was definitely hair that didn't belong to me on the floor, and small pieces of trash that hadn't been completely cleaned up. The remote (and lapdesk they set it on) was a bit sticky, which as you might imagine, was less than ideal.

Other than that, I didn't have anything to complain about. A capital improvement that I think would be great is adding a pedestrian gate to the side entrance. Otherwise, you either have to walk out the front door (even though there are doors on either side of the building) or through the grass to get out to the side street (if you don't have a car). I thought that was a design oversight and should probably be addressed.

I would definitely recommend this as a wonderful location for proximity, hospitality and suitability for economical business travel. I would just suggest that they do a bit more spot-checking on their maintenance staff to make sure they are doing all the small things that make a hotel ascend from good to great.

We've stayed here several times over the years visiting our son at Vanderbilt. Really convenient walk to campus. Staff couldn't be more friendly. Breakfast is more than adequate for a freebee. (As someone noted, the flow into the food area isn't ideal, but who cares if you wait 10 seconds for someone else to move.) Internet fine and free, same with parking. Often had fruit out during the day. Rooms are plenty nice. On other trips we upgraded to the small suite, which is much more room for not much more money; no brainer if there are 2 of you. Usually went running outside, so didn't use the small gym nor outdoor pool.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the small suite for not much more

We chose this hotel because of the proximity to Vanderbilt University and were quite happy with our experience. The staff was helpful and the room was spacious and comfortable. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

This is a great hotel with a good location. Big benefit versus other hotels in Nashville is the free parking, and of course like all Hamptons they have the complimentary breakfast. Just a short drive or taxi ride to Broadway and also within walking distance to several restaraunts and the Vanderbilt football stadium.

Staff was very accomodating. We said there for the marathon and it was pouring rain the day of the event. Breakfast was an hour early, with water and lots of fruit. Granola, energy bars. Staff even gave out plastic trash bags and cut out the arm and head holes so we had cover before the race. Prices were double for the nights before and after the race. There were partiers by our door for a long time the night after the race, and no discount was given.

Good location for the most part. Exercise room small and only one elliptical. Need at least two. TV channels limited and not enough HD. Breakfast area crowded and poor access due to design. Room comfortable, poor desk design with chair too short. Internet works well.

This hotel was perfect for our stay. Staff was great. Free breakfast. Free parking. Price was higher over the weekend because of a special event, but otherwise was about the price I would expect to pay for a hotel in and around the city. It was not directly in the center of everything , but a short ride down Broadway got you there. Room was clean and comfortable. Could not hear noise from other guests or the surrounding building projects. Also was close to Centennial Park which is a nice place to go for a walk or a run. I would stay again for sure when visiting Nashville. A side note is that you may hear helicopters from Vanderbilt Medical Center, but it didn't bother us.

Room Tip: I prefer rooms on the upper floors. Ask for one on the same side as downtown and you will definitely...
