I stayed at this hotel with my fiance for a 3 night getaway. I booked this hotel because I have always been happy with Marriott hotels. This, however, was the exception. We had problems as soon as we got there with the valet parking. No attendants were outside and there was no place to park to even go inside to find one. I had to drop off my fiance to go inside to get one while I drove around the block.
Check in was a breeze although my fiance and I both found it a little strange when the desk clerk began telling us about things to see and included a nude karaoke bar in her list. We both thought she was joking until we walked down the street and saw a topless club advertising for nude karaoke (Yes, there is a topless club less than a block away.. it's in Printer's Alley which, by the way, is overrated).
The room was ok but lacked certain ammenities. For one, there is no vent in the bathroom. We both thought this was just kinda weird. Secondly, there was no sink or mirror in the bathroom. Guess you have to brush your teeth and shave elsewhere. Third, there was no mini-fridge in the room. I really thought this was odd considering that many hotels now provide you with a full size fridge in your room. I would have been perfectly happy with a small one.
As for breakfast, well, you're pretty much stuck eating it because there really aren't very many options for that particular meal in that part of town. While it wasn't bad, it certainly wasn't good. What I really didn't like is that I had to pay for it even though many other Marriott hotels I've stayed at have always provided the exact same thing for free.
I guess the absolute worst thing about this hotel was also the best thing about it. I am referring to the location. It is within walking distance to everything downtown which we thought was great. However, you can not even walk a block down the road without being bombarded by homeless people (this is especially true at night). There are posters plastered all over the downtown area telling people that it is illegal for panhandlers to ask you for money and that you shouldn't give them any if they do. Several times we had bums coming up to us and have the audacity to say "I know it's illegal but I'm gonna ask you for money anyway because I need a drink". Not only that, if you tried to ignore them they would sometimes follow you until they found someone else to harrass. (We noticed this happening to other people also.. not just us.) They even have the nerve to sometimes cuss at you if you tell them you don't have any money. While we noticed homeless people in other parts of the downtown area, the area where this hotel is seems to be even worse in that respect.
Anyways, it wasn't a horrible place to stay but I will never stay there again.
