“Nashville Hospitality At It's Best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Went to Nashville on a week long summer retreat with 40 couples. The coordinator made reservations and he did not miss the mark. Gaylord Opryland Resort was a wonderful place to stay. This was the largest hotel I have ever stayed in. One of the staff members said there was 2880 rooms in this hotels. WOW! The Botanical Garden with the waterfalls are magnificent. The indoor pool and hot tubs are great. But most of all the rooms with a balcony are worth the price. Don't hesitate to make reservations.

Room Tip: Get a balcony.

We loved the beautiful atriums, Christmas decorations and the laser light shows. The restaurants are a little pricey but the food is good. Use the self free parking to save the daily parking charge if you don't mind a little hike, you can ride the shuttle to the mall and the opry.

We had a business meeting here...thus here for a few days without a car.
1. Rooms are nothing special - the average room for a 3-star facility.
2. The restaurants on site are expensive (but good quality). Average meal per person $25 including tip (no drinks). The mall is a 10 minute walk and there are options there.
3. The fitness room: small compared to the size of the hotel. And very hot (85F+ and very little ventilation). I ended up running outside early in the morning. Nice loop around the hotel and the mall next door.
4. Downtown is a taxi ride (25-30 minutes depending on traffic). If you have been to the Opry, then you should go downtown (otherwise nothing to do near hotel).
5. Shuttle available to and from the hotel to the airport ($24 one way).
6. Bring lots of sweaters - the air conditioning makes for cool temperatures indoors.

All in all a good stay.

This is not just a hotel, it is everything you could want in one place. Waterfalls, a river running through w/ a river boat tour, ducks, full sized trees, walking trails, restaurants, coffee shops, icecream, shopping and much more! It's all under one roof. This place is gorgeous and large! You will need a few days to see it all and to not get lost in this place! We are looking forward to another visit here!

In booking our recent stay in Nashville we actually chose a different hotel but several years ago I was there for a conference (without my husband) and I wanted to show him how neat this place was. Needless to say he fell in love with it so we moved hotels.

The resort is beautiful, you could actually spend the day just walking around the over 42,000sqft grounds. There are 3 different "sections" to this hotel not counting the convention center and they all have their own special features which include lazy rivers, waterfalls, exotic flowers, and spectacular water fountains.

The resort also offers onsite gourmet restaurants as well as quick stops like bakeries and a Starbucks, they have numerous specialty gift shops, a video game arcade, two pools and a full service spa. You may also be able to catch a live show on WSM 650 AM (The Legend) as they have a studio on site.

If you are going to treat yourself to a spectacular dinner, try the Old Hickory Smokehouse. It is a little pricey but it was truly the best steak I've ever had! Also, the "sides" -- we ordered creamed spinach -- come in a serving bowl and can literally feed 4 people. So if you and your guest(s) can agree on one or two sides, that would be enough, trust me! Also, I have to mention the service is exceptional! You have your head waiter as well as an assistant so your glass is never empty and you need only ask once if you're in need of something and it arrives immediately.

We chose an "inside" room with gives you a personal balcony which was definitely worth the minimal price difference. You will find yourself keeping the door open and spending more time on your balcony than in your room and yes, you can see the television from the table on your balcony. Keeping this in mind, it was nice to run about that day and come back to a room that you weren't contained in. It was like still being out... watching the water show, boat rides and just people watching, just in the comfort of your room. Rooms were nice and clean.

FYIs:
- As beautiful as this property is, this is still a convention center so depending on what type of convention, it can be noisy.
- There are over 2,800 rooms so there will be a lot of people around, however, the place is so massive it doesn't feel that way.
- Lines at check in and if you need to check out can be very long.
- When visiting the pool they offer nice, BIG, thick towels as well as sunscreen.
- If you park your own car be prepared to WALK! I would suggest valet services, this way if you are located in the middle of the hotel or on the other end, valet will bring your car to the closest drop off and pick up spot for you.
- They gave us AAA and AARP discounts so make sure you ask!
- They charge an $18 "resort fee" which includes: two bottles of water per day, shuttle service (to Grand Ole Opry House, General Jackson Showboat, Gaylord Springs Golf Links and Opry Mills), wireless internet access (excludes meeting and convention space), access to the fitness center and local, domestic and toll free calls from your room.

- FREE wifi (they will give you a code)
- They also offer

Room Tip: Room with a balcony, it's worth the upgrade!
