i am going to tell you practical things for this hotel as not many people on these reviews tell you the things you need to know.

location is about 20 minutes from the airport and it is cheaper to get a taxi than the hotel shuttle. it cost us $25 flat fee.

upon arrival we were upgraded and we had a 42 inch plasma tv and gigantic bed we had a fridge that wasn't switched on and safe that was free to use.

on arrival we had to pay a resort fee which we knew about before this helps. it came to $128 for a seven day stay and works out about $16 a day. this includes a newspaper every day which changes form usa today to wall streeet journal and the tennessean. two bottles of water and use of the safe.

this hotel is big and you will get lost. they give you a map and you need it.

there is a shuttle you can use we paid $46 and this included the use of the shuttle for three days and tickets to the country music hall of fame and the ryman auditorium. although you can get unlimited use of the shuttle as no one checks your tickets.
the shuttle stops outside the cascades lobby which is situated round the corner form the delta sundries shop.
the shuttle leaves there for downtown on the hour and picks you back up at ryman 25 minutes past the hour and country music hall of fame half past the hour and from the wildhorse saloon at 35 minutes past the hour.

there is not much in the immediate vicinity of the hotel except music valley row. head for the tennesse walking horses and keep going until you see mcdonalds. this is music valley row.
they have a cooters which is dukes of hazzards museum, lots of restaurants an ernest tubbs record store and nashville palace which does nice food and good live music. they have a wax museum too.

you do nto need to get the shuttle to the opry mills outlet. if you go through the delta atrium past the river boat and turn right out this door and acrross the lot through the little wooded area and you are at the opry mills outlet and grand ole opry.
opry mills has loads, barnes and noble, champ sports, among lots of others. food court here is cheaper than hotel.

“This place is huge!”

Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center

We stayed here from April 4 to April 9th, 2008 for an elementary principals' convention. About the time we learned how to get around this behemoth place, it was time to go. I think they use the casino philosophy.... make it hard to exit and provide just about anything they think you will need (at highly inflated prices).

Because this place is so huge, there are tons and tons of people here. Restaurants are overcrowded. Bars are overcrowded.

Our room was comfortable but average.

Best thing about this place was it was just a brief walk to the Grand Old Opry.

I would not go back to this hotel.

“Huge!”

Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center

I was informed that this is the largest hotel in a US without a casino and I wouldn't doubt it. Unless you have been to this hotel you would never be able to understand how completely huge it is. It is ridiculous to try to navigate it but it is so fun and entertaining. We paid $219 for a room with two queen size beds. The rooms were modernly decorated but were not amazing. Th hotel charges a $15 resort fee which includes the use of wi-fi, pools, and little else. Also, parking is $16 per 24 hours. This fee could be alleviated if you park at the mall ( a 5 minute walk away). Don't trust me on this advice because we didn't try it but would if we went back. The mall was entertaining and was in the same family as the resort and Opry. It had a lot of outlet and factory stores.
The prices in the hotel stores was ridiculous so I would recommend bringing your own snacks. It has a restaurant that spins really slowly which is neat to watch. One part had a boat ride that cost $9 per person. on board your were told history of the hotel and about the fish in the "river".
This hotel was definitely something to experience once but was to hectic, expensive, and far from downtown to go back.

“Nice Hotel but Expected More...”

Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center

Apr 29, 2008

I was managing an event at the Opryland and stayed at the hotel for a week.
Pros: Food was great, staff was helpful.
Cons: Price, Location, & crazy size of the hotel, rooms were below par
Based on the price of the rooms compared to other hotels in Nashville you would assume that they would be nice updated rooms. I felt that the room I had, a garden suite, was nothing more than a regular hotel. Having a view of the internal gardens was nice but it is really weird not knowing what is going on outside. The bed was not comfortable in my opinion and it had a incredibly thin blanket and a not so nice comforter. I was hoping that the hotel would follow in the trends of Marriott's and Hiltons with the nice down feather comforters and nicer pillows.
Food at the resturaunts was good and nice quality. Hotel staff was very helpful in pointing lost people the right direction.
Hotel is huge and does not have elevators where you need them. It would also be nice if they had soda machines on the different levels of the convention center. Bring good shoes because if you there for an event you will be walking a lot.
The gym and the spa was fantastic. Did not try the pool but it looked nice. It is close to the mall if you like to shop but isn't close to much else. I also feel their shuttle to the airport is a ripoff, cheaper to just get a taxi. The shuttle cost should be included in the silly resort fee. If the staff wasn't so amazing I would not of liked this hotel at all.

“Caution: Wine Year "Bait and Switch" - 2 Restaurants in the Gaylord Opryland”

Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center

Apr 29, 2008

Wine "Bait and Switch" in both the Old Hickory and in the Cascades Restaurants. They did not have the wine listed on the menu (year) and brought out and inferior year and did not inform us. They still charged the amount for the premium year listed on the menu though even when we told them the wine was not the one on the menu and was less expensive. Happened to an acquantance on the very same evening in another restaurant there. Both dinners had identical ways they brought the wine out, did not reveal a different year, and how they handled the fact that we caught the wrong year when they brought it out. Food was good but the meal spoiled by what both tables felt as deceptiveness. I have stayed at the Gaylords a half-dozen times and spent mega-dollars entertaining there. Never again. I will take a cab into town next time. I felt my 4-night stay at $3,500 would have been better spent elsewhere. Nice property though and generally friendly staff.
