We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of March in the Chocolate Studio, which is a contemporary one bedroomed apartment set in lush wooded gardens behind the 3 bedroomed Chocolate Retreat, which wasn’t in use while we were there.
We had some issues getting the key as Linda, the owner wasn’t in when we arrived. We were, however greeted by the 2 resident British Blue cats – Patch and JJ. Linda had left us a note on the door with a contact phone number, but unfortunately our mobile phone didn’t work up in this area at all. We went off for a cup of tea instead and when we got back, Linda had arrived home. She was very apologetic and explained that as we’d booked through Agoda, she had no means at all of contacting us at all and had been hoping we might have contacted her directly beforehand.
Anyway, the key issues behind us, Linda, who is a very welcoming, friendly and serene person, showed us the apartment. It really is lovely. The main room has a large king bed, an L-shaped high table top with 2 bar stools, a lounge area with 2 armchairs, a flat screen tv and DVD player, a wood burning stove and a small kitchenette which has a gas hob, a fridge, a microwave and a portable grill/oven under the kitchen sink. The en-suite bathroom has a large shower, loo, basin and a washing machine with a drying rack. The whole room feels very spacious and light as it has windows on all sides, but is still very private. Outside, there is a small deck area and a gas fired BBQ which we made use of.
Linda is a chocolatier and offers chocolate making classes of various lengths, which I would highly recommend as they’re great fun. Her passion for chocolate is expressed in the rooms too – we had a chocolate themed umbrella which we had to use, the DVD Chocolat, plus of course, a gift of delicious hand made chocolates.
Breakfast is also included in the price. Aside for the usual range of cereals and fruit juices, bacon, sausages and eggs, including some from Linda’s free range chickens, are included. We also got a freshly baked loaf discretely delivered at 8.30am on our 1st morning plus another one in the afternoon of our 2nd day.
Prior to staying here, we had been on the road for 6 weeks, so this was perfect as a little peaceful oasis in which to relax, unwind and recharge our batteries. We just loved it here and my only complaint is that we couldn’t stay any longer.
