“mallacoota iconoclast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

I read about Peter in the seventies, when he started to build his mudbrick village and it took 40 years to meet him!! A pioneer of alternative building, he and Margaret have created an atmosphere of charm and tranquillity that is unsurpassed. We stayed longer than planned, and enjoyed kayaking the great waterways of Mallacoota.
We'll be back to enjoy a longer stay with wonderful hosts.

My wife and I were able to spend a night at the mudbrick cottages and had one of our favorite experiences of a 3-week visit to Australia. We were visiting from Chicago on our honeymoon and while we had a wonderful trip traveling along Australia's East coast, this was the place we wish we'd stayed for many more days and nights. The hosts Peter and Margaret could not have been more welcoming; certainly when you reserve a spot here you have your own hut to enjoy, but you also feel at home wherever you are on their plot. Bonuses were all the beautiful and unique animals from possum to sugar gliders to birds of all sizes and colors...not to mention the FIRE POLE which you can slide down from the main hut to the parking area! Lovely walking trails surround the property, and the reinforcement of sustainable, responsible living reminded us to be better stewards of our earth.

Almost a transcendental experience in the mudbrick cottages high on the hill, overlooking the Lake and backing on to the forest. We saw lots of birds, most impressively the sea eagles and the King parrots. With its emphasis on recycling, we left Adobe much relaxed with our halos glowing. We had some lovely meals at Lucy's restaurant also. Definitely worth a return visit.

What a truly wonderful place! We were lucky to stay in the Penthouse, lucky for us and our two quiet dogs. Very welcoming to our dogs, which gives it the thumbs up from us.
After a day on the beach and long walks we would sit on the verandah each night watching the lake and the birds, sipping a glass of Chardonnay, what could be better? Magical...
This is our preferred place for holidays now, despite the fact that we do love other parts of the coast.
Relaxed and welcoming, highly recommended!

What a nice quiet little getaway with parrots & bushrats picking up their daily seeds on the terrace. We saw our first wild koala in the nearby Croajingolong NP too. Clean and environmentally friendly. Recommended.

We have stayed a few times in various units at Adobe Mudbrick Holiday Flats, the flats are located about 4 km from Mallacoota each having its own unique views. The bird life is fantastic, we spent many hours watching the antics of the native birds and even managed a few sightings of Lyrebirds. The decor or the units is different, Peter is obviously an exponent of recycle and reuse and each unit has its own quirky charm. That said, we found the range of bits and pieces one of the most comprehensive of any unit in which we have stayed. The kitchen has the necessary items to cook most meals and there is a good range of books and games available.

Peter and Margaret are fantastic hosts, very friendly and helpful but allowing you your privacy. If you like a relaxing holiday and enjoy Australian native wildlife these units are well worth a visit and are very reasonably priced.

A wonderfull and peacefull place with 2 lovely hosts, the spacious and nicely decorated flats are clean and suitable for singles, couples or families. And for a very reasonable price. The flats are surrounded by a beautifull forrest that attracts very diverse and interesting wildlife. For me one of the highlights of my 5 weeks trip in Australia. Enjoy!
