“Never Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Have been here a few times over the years but NEVER AGAIN. The service has never been great but the food has been worth the poor service, but the last time was the straw that broke the camel's back. I had read there had been a change in management so decided to give it another try. First time back in a while was OK but they still managed to stuff up the orders, second time back didn't even get to order as whilst we waited patiently at the bar staff managed to ignore most of the patrons waiting to order so when we finally didget noticed they didn't have half of what we wanted & this was at 7pm. They make you feel that it should be a privilige that you are getting ANY service from them, whether it be good or bad. Someone needs to let them know that the customer is paying their wages & if they don't want to be in hospitality then move on. Take a look down the road at Innocent Bystander where the service is excellent as is the local indian place Paramparaa Indian Restaurant. As I said NEVER AGAIN will I find need to step into this place.

I have messaged you regarding the above review for more information regarding your experience with the bar staff at the hotel, but unfortunately I have yet to receive a reply. We place a great deal of importance on improving the friendliness and the professionalism of the service we provide. I would have liked to have addressed the issues that you raised with the specific staff member involved. Please be aware however, that I have discussed your review in a general meeting with our staff. I am really sorry that you were treated in this manner and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss it further with you should you feel inclined to call me personally.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012 via mobile

We booked the 1 night package with 3 course dinner included. First impressions of hotel were good. Beautiful cosy dining room. But there were many mixups which left us feeling disappointed. We hadn't been booked in for dinner ('maybe your rate didn't include it'). At dinner, there was a mixup with our starters & my partner received a different meal altogether. Food took a very long time to arrive - quality was good but not amazing. The bill arrived with the entire dinner to be charged even though we were on the prepaid room/dinner package. I also queried whether there was to be any deductions due to the earlier mixup with the starters. It was returned with only a bottle of mineral water comped which I thought was a bit cheap on a $90 bill for dessert/wine. Room was ok, but small and overlooked a corrugated iron roof. The location of the hotel is great - close to giant steps & white rabbit brewery. But overall, I'm sure there is better value for money.

Thank you for taking the time to review us from your recent trip to Healesville. The weekend you stayed with us was my first weekend working at the hotel, it was also the first weekend that our Head of Administration was on annual leave for her wedding. There was a mistake made on your booking and obviously a breakdown in communication. It is very disappointing to read of the continued follies and mistakes that seemed to be directed at your table –well below expectation on both parties. I have recently started work as General Manager and am focusing on building a team where the care and attention to detail will be consistent and professional. As far as our hotel rooms we are constantly maintaining, the rooms are simple and classic with nice touches but the hotel is 100 years old and has a traditional floorplan which doesn’t suit everyone. Next time you visit look at our great new accommodation at Furmston House - lots of luxury touches, privacy and quiet – it is a great add located right behind only meters from the hotel. If you were to give us another go I would appreciate a phone call to me personally and I will ensure your stay runs smoothly & you have an enjoyable time.

We stayed with another couple in 2 rooms upstairs at the hotel. We have just run the Yarra Valley Grape Race. The meal included in the rate was delicious, w great wines and lovely service. However upon ascending to our room, which we picked for convenience, we found the noise of patrons in the pub very disturbin. In addition, being at the top of the landing, we had to listen to everyone walking past to get to the communal bathrooms. No double glazing on the windows means you cn hear everything on the street. What was worse hwever was being woken again at 630am with the cleaner vacuuming! Obviously its been a problem previously, as ear plugs are provided in the rooms, but they were poor quality ones that didnt stay in. Lastly, the beds were very uncomfrtable!! If you are after a nice relaxing quiet sleep...this is NOT the place for you.

A large group of us recently travelled to Healesville for a wedding. The Healesville Hotel was recommended to us. I was surprised by how expensive it was. $505 for two people (2 nights accommodation with one dinner and one breakfast) - this was more than I recently spent for a 7 night stay at a luxury resort in Thailand!

The dinner was amazing and the staff were incredibly lovely, but I can't say that we got overall value for money. After all, there are no ensuite bathrooms, the beds are quite small and the water was turned off on the Saturday night when we returned from the wedding (a 2am phone call to one of the staff eventually fixed this).

If I'm ever in Healesville again, I'll definitely stop by the restaurant, but I'm certain there's better accommodation deals elsewhere in the region.

Sunday lunch with friends, we had the 2 course option for $55 , food was delicious, unfortunately they had run out of beers and wines selected. Waiter was not very accommodating with some requests , couldn't recommend an alternative wine when asked which is a bit poor given we were in the Yarra. valley one of the great wine regions of Victoria. He didn't really seem to know waiting etiquette , reaching across people to serve or take away plates etc, knocking someone in the neck with a plate .....apart from that it was very nice, I would go again but would avoid the waiter

Thank-you for your feedback, which while very disappointing to read, is essential to have and use to improve our business. We are continually working hard to try and provide the best possible product and service.

It is extremely disappointing to hear that our front of house waiter had such a negative impact on what could have been a great experience. We want to let you know that your feedback has not been taken lightly and the waiter in question has been counselled on this and made very aware that his performance falls well below the standards expected. He has been reallocated from dining-room service and we will work with him and reassess his skills.

Our aim is only to have the most knowledgeable and attentive waiters and as owners and managers we try to instill and train in all our staff a high level of customer care. It is obvious that your visit fell well below both yours, and our, standards.

On a positive note we were delighted you enjoyed our delicious new dining room menu cooked by our new Head Chef Clinton Camilleri. We are very pleased to have him on board and look forward to working with his passion for regional produce.

We are working hard on building a professional team and would love to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future to experience not just great food but fabulous service. Please if you wish to discuss this further, or wish to give us your confidence and visit us again please call Michael on 5962 4002.

We had lunch in the dining room on a busy Friday. The menu was a set menu, choice of 2 entree and main, or main and dessert, plus a glass of local wine included. Room was really cost on a cold, rainy day, service was great and food was also.Even the coffee was good, and we are coffee snobs.it was $99 for two but well worth it. Give it a try.

Largely enjoyable experience ruined by the dodgy chef sending our a burned chicken parma

Charcutrie and calamari were quite good

Staff rushed us on delivery of the main - must have been short staffed in the kitchen

Will be eating elsewhere next time
