“lovely food and scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Good food, a little over pricey though.

lovely service.

Try to arrive during earlier times for dinner when its not soo busy, as food is cooked perfectly when restaurant isnt crowded and waiting times are reduced

great restaurant though

“A city restaurant at country prices?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Visited on 6 October 2013 for dinner. Vegetables served were terrible and tasted like something that had been reheated. Potato medley had a milk/cream based sauce that had curdled. Menu cards were dog eared and in need of urgent replacement.

It is not a city (standard) restaurant at country prices. Road side diners do better than this

“Vegetarian nightmare”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I've been to the Quarry restaurant twice now, I learnt my lesson the first time but was forced to go back again because it's the only place that serves food at 9pm on a Monday night in Halls Gap.
I'm vegetarian by choice and lactose intolerant by nature. Ordinarily this isn't a problem when eating out - most restaurants have vegetarian options and are happy to remove the cheese. The first time I tried to order the Eggplant Parma Stack, however the chef refused to do it without cheese because it would "compromise the structural integrity of the dish". Despite my willingness to eat a very messy plate of eggplant I had to order the 'Vegetarian Delight' - a stack of veggie burgers which they were happy to make without cheese. Unfortunately the veggie burgers were bubble 'n' squeak - mashed potato with peas and carrot formed into patties. That's not a real food and should never be served in a restaurant.
The second time I had the misfortune of eating at the Quarry Restaurant I tried to order the pile of bubble 'n' squeak again, as there were no other options. When I asked for no cheese I was told "No, it has feta," and given a menu to find my own vegetarian dish with no dairy. Not sure how they managed to leave it out the first time. I ended up with a single field mushroom drowned in a tasteless gravy and a bowl of chips.
One of my companions who is lucky enough to digest lactose with ease ordered the Eggplant Parma Stack; it had an alarming amount of ham in it for a dish labelled vegetarian.

The younger waitstaff are lovely and I'm sure it could be a nice restaurant if you ate meat and dairy, but I'd approach it with caution if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

Nice atmosphere, helpful and friendly staffs but food is only so-so.
I had Roos meat for the time and the staff took an effort to explain and set my expectations right.
Guess kangaroos are safe from humans, the meat itself is lean and tasteless.

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013 via mobile

We came here on a busy night. The staff were more focused on the larger groups and we felt a little neglected, although they did push our order through to beat the rush, which was appreciated. The chicken schnitzel appeared to be processed and not made on site. There was a meager handful of tired looking chips on the side. This meal was definitely not worth $25, although I guess that's the price one can expect to pay in a touristy country restaurant.
