“A surprise pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Went to the Hare today with friends for lunch. Really quirky little pub, good beer and great food. We had the steak and kidney pie which was delicious. A la carte is a little on the pricey side for a normal pub but judging by our meal it is worth it. Serves a nice selection of beers too. Will definitely go back.

“Fabulous!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

We had lunch at The Hare today and it was fabulous. The second you walk through the door you are made to feel welcome. The food was wonderful, I had the Moules and Frites, delicious. My husband had the 3 course lunch time menu. He said every mouthful was a wonderful experience. Some one said in a review the food was art on a plate and that is true.
I finished with a pot of tea which came with the most lovely sweet treats, the toffee was heaven in my mouth. We can't wait to go back again.

“Art on a plate.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We were gifted this meal by our son and family in New Zealand (all booked via email).
From calling in to book a lunchtime table with co owner Liz we immediately felt welcomed.
Neither of us being used to fine dining we expected the usual country pub menu, WoW! what a suprise. Warm welcome, fine food and absolutely wonderful presentation. As I remarked to our hostess Liz the one reservation we had was spoiling the presentation of the food itself which looked like fine art on a plate.

The very personal touch of printing out and placing on our table the emailed photograph of our grandchildren was truly appreciated by us both.

A little more expensive than we are used too but way from over the top, we would reccommend that if you are in North Yorks it is certainly worth going out of your way to visit for the wonderful all round experience.

Many thanks Paul, Liz & staff. Sandy & Janet Cruickshank. Durham

“Great dining find in fabulous North Yorkshire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

My husband and I stumbled upon this fantastic find from a roadside sign, so we entered with little expectation. What we discovered was a foodie delight - unpretentious welcoming service and great food the quality of a top restaurant but without the ridiculous price tag. We are particular about our food and my husband believes the risotto is the best he has ever had. Our only regret is that we weren't more hungry and were well away from our hotel to also come for dinner. We've put this down as our best meal so far travelling through the UK, and that includes some pretty fancy high profile places in London.

“Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013 via mobile

We were expecting good food but got fine dining.
You will need 3 course but savour each delicious mouthfull as each one contains something new and delicious.
A great experience with delightful service that was attentive without being over bearing.
Not cheap but worth ever penny. The Yorvik beer is tops and all drinks were top class.
New owners make me think this is a work in progress and that they will turn this spot into somewhere famous. A bit of work to do on things like the ceiling and toilets but a great atmosphere already.
We absolutely loved.
