“Interesting place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

We rolled into town on the way back from South Australia and chose to stay at the Victoria because it was a character filled country pub. We were in time for dinner which was huge and delicious. Not gourmet if that is your thing but wholesome, filling and served promptly. We were led upstairs to one of the nicer room, which I think may be the one pictured on their website. We were quite amused with the twin bed option having been married 22 years. The room was relatively basic but the beds were comfy, had electric blankets and were neat and clean. The bathrooms were down the hall, but were fine. I didn't have to share them, maybe others had slept in or left already. There was a little lounge also down the hall, with an old tv, shag rug and couches, tea and coffee making facilities etc. Peter the rabbit was also hopping about on the balcony!
By no means was the hotel luxurious, but we enjoyed our stay regardless. Life is made up of different experiences and this was just another memorable one!

Stayed one night in the Victoria in early May. The rooms were clean and well presented. Ate in house and the meals were large and tasty. (I also met the rabbit on the verandah and found him to be friendly!).
Great value for money, much cheaper than the motel, and a bit of an adventure.
Recommended.

No office to sign in, lent on staircase to fill in form. No air con working - 41 degrees; window locked into open by about 15 cm; had to ask for a fan - was broken. Bar open Friday night until 3 a.m. Only a sink in twin room, community separate bathrooms, shower curtains. Manager contacted about aircon; came and worked above our heads in roof from 9.30-10 p.m. Evening meal good. Wanted to leave by 7.30 a.m.; no-one to be found to pay bill to; left cash on bar with note and contact no.; not contacted, had to ring to confirm cash received - cleaner answered at 10 a.m. Received bill in another month, rang and mail had just been dealt with 'the day before' - am still waiting for a receipt 4 months later. 'Picturesque verandah' in website - total delusion, overlooks purple funeral parlour, is sloping and has ancient lounges to sit on plus a tame rabbit running around. a most inefficiently run place - as if out of the ark if you want an extraordinary experience!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else. We were put in the furthest room away from the bar and still heard the doof doof.

refering to let down Lynette i actually enjoyed my stay at The Victoria Hotel found there web site quite up front and very understanding perhaps you didn't read it properly, when i arrived at the hotel i was greeted by the friendly owners and also had in mind of staying there as a half way point to Adelaide from Melbourne we also stayed on a night that the kitchen was not open but that was easy we walked to the local iga got a cooked chicken and some ready made salads and was quite happy to be able to have a guest lounge to prepare our meal, and we didn't mind the single bed twin room and also sharing the bathroom as we are travellers and have stayed at many accommodations similar to this so a very big thank you to the owners Jodie and Tony for making our time there a great time in fact Lynette we stayed a extra night we enjoyed it so much and will be staying there on our way back through to Melbourne.........

After check-in we were shown upstairs and we were delighted to find a clean well presented room and a great little guest area with all the comforts of home. The outside balcony was just the place to sit and relax after a fantastic meal. Well done

We chose this hotel to stay at as a useful halfway stop between Melbourne and Adelaide by the main highway. Dimboola is a nice little town bypassed by the freeway, so it's quiet. The Victoria Hotel looked good from the outside on its website, and the description of its good country food was the deciding factor on us staying there. We could cope with single beds in a twin room for one night. After we'd checked in - oops, a shared bathroom, well it was cheap - and walked round the town, we came back for dinner. 'Sorry, no dinner tonight'. To cut a long story short, we drive another 40km to the next town, with only part of our money back.
The owner was one of the most aggressive, abusive people I've encountered in 40 years in the hospitality business. Such a pity. Such a contrast to the Union Hotel at Nhill where we were both welcomed and fed well.
