We went to the Hillside last night. The restaurant is in a beautiful building and the atmosphere is beautiful...we enjoyed a lovely cocktail in the library before heading to the table. We read through a great menu and then we waited...and waited...and waited for someone to take our order.. eventually they did - by which point we were informed that there was no Cote de Boeuf on the menu (which two of us had wanted to order). Ok, so one of our party ordered Calves liver and made it very, very clear that she wanted it booked blue. It arrived some time later overcooked, so it went back...the next one that arrived was overcooked too...but by she ate it anyway. Three of us ordered the lamb on the menu and one dish came to the table beautifully fanned onto the plate, whereas mine was a bit of a mess! The food was tasty but the little things really matter at the prices they are charging. It matters that the bowl you have for balsamic vineagar and olive oil is not ridiculously deep, it matters that you aren't waiting around for ages to order, it matters that the chef listens to what you ask for...thankfully the bill reflected the fact the calves liver order was wrong...this was my second time at this restaurant and we spent £94 for the two of us last night. just not worth the money.
