For years I lived in the Eastern Suburbs and I never dined at Catalina. My husband grew up in the Eastern Suburbs and regularly dines at fine dining restaurants but the last time he was at Catalina was was over 15 years ago so decided to got there for our anniversary this year and I am so glad we did!
We were seated on the balcony and there was a bit of a chill in the air so they set up heating for us. The waiter looked after our wine to ensure the temperature wasn't affected by the heating. The host regularly checked on all the guests dining keeping everything running smoothly and also wished us for our anniversary after I had noted it on our reservation which was a nice personal touch.
The view over the reflections on the water in Rose Bay and the seaplanes was beautiful. The service was very efficient and the food and wine was great!
I had mixed dozen oysters fir entree and the John Dory for my main, definitely worth trying both!
I was worried about getting a taxi from there afterwards. There happened to be one waiting outside the restaurant when we left.
I am looking forward to heading back sometime this year and highly recommend it. I think we'll try lunch next time with some friends to enjoy the views and sunshine. It's right near the ferry so arriving by boat, water taxi or ferry would be fun. I'm glad I tried it after all this time, I'll be back!
