“Sensational Taste & 6 Star Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

My first experience and definitely not the last! We were received by staff and Manager, greeted by name which was a wonderful personal touch that carried throughout the evening to our departure. The ambience was great with soft music and a wonderful view of Middle Harbour outside the Marina surrounds. The service was exceptional the whole evening and it's good to know that some places still do care about customer service and satisfaction.

With advice from our waiter of our initial selections, we ordered 4x tapas dishes and a main which were cooked very well, our favourite being the prawns and scallops that were grilled perfectly;

- Garlic prawns cooked in fresh herbs and garlic
- Moroccan Meat balls cooked in mild spiced tomato sauce
- Grilled scallops with corn salsa in mild chilli prawns oil
- Tortilla de potatoes traditional Spanish omelette and,
- A juicy Seafood paella, saffron flavoured rice cooked with combination of seafood, (chicken) and green peas for the main.

We were offered complimentary bread which came out hot and fresh allowing us to enjoy the leftover garlic and tomato sauces from the tapas dishes happily

I just wish I wasn't so full and needed to pass up on dessert, though I look forward to my next visit to sample other parts of the menu.

“Awkward and embarrassing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

I love the food here - middle eastern food has a lot of subtlety, complexity and flavour and it is worth the trip for a different experience to the normal same old same old.
Afous is one of the better Moroccan style restaurants and the location by the Spit Bridge is superb although finding it and parking can be a problem.
It is embarrassing though when you are offered a "complementary" carrot salad which I would not have bought by choice and they mention that they can replace the cous cous with rice and then to find they are both on a bill at the end of the night.
I was familiar with the practise in Morocco but I do find it embarrassing to have to check the bill and ask questions. They apologised but I still left feeling awkward.

“A whole new level of excellence in food & service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

Wow. I was actually blown away by the attentiveness and the quality of this restaurant. I go to a lot of restaurants and this was one of my best experiences ever. We shared an entree of calamari and scallops - tender and cooked to perfection. For the main I had a fish tagine - the Moroccan flavours were delicate and perfectly presented with almond cous cous. My colleague had slow cooked beef cheeks which fell apart at the touch. The wine section was very good and the meals were well priced. All this was accompanied with amazing service and a warm and welcoming ambiance not to mention stunning views over spit bridge. Would recommend this any time! I'll be back!!

“A great night out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We dined at Afous to celebrate a significant family birthday, and had a wonderful dining experience.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to out table with a wonderful view over Middle Harbour. We then offered rose water to wash our hands, a very nice touch!

We started out with North African Zaater Bread, followed by three Tapas entrees - Garlic prawns, cooked in fresh herbs and garlic, Grilled scallops, corn salsa, mild chilli prawns oil and Garlic mushroom, sautéed mushrooms with mix herbs and garlic- followed by a single main course, Seafood paella, saffron flavoured rice cooked with combination of seafood, and green peas. We finished off with deserts - Orange blossom panna cotta ,rose petal Kandy Moroccan Mint Tea and Crema catalane, baked and topped with crunchy burnt sugar glaze. We also enjoyed a bottle of Rose form Chile with the meal.

The food was both delicious and interesting, while the service was attentive but not intrusive.

It was a wonderful dining experience, and at $150, including wine and a tip, was excellent value for money

“Didn't live up to reviews”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

The food was interesting with some lovely flavours but the portion sizes were very small - tapas servings at main meal prices. One dish was still frozen in the middle and we had to wait for our wine as the fridge hadn't been restocked. Everyone was trying hard and hopefully they can bring it together.

Dear OEPB,

Thank you for your review and we appreciate the feedback. We have recently changed the wine list to ensure we have more stock, and we apologise for any inconvenience. We pride ourselves on the food being made fresh to order, and it is disappointing to hear we did not meet your expectations.

We are happy to hear you will reconsider us and look forward to your next visit.

Sincerely,

Omar Majdi
