Owner description: Taking a ferry directly from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo, located in the suburb of Mosman, is the first unexpected joy of visiting the animal park. Once there, the leisurely trails and opportunity to see some of Australia's distinct wildlife become apparent, as does the striking view of the Harbour Bridge from the seating at the aerial bird show. Advance booking can give you the chance to see koalas up close, or stay overnight and 'camp' in the zoo.

“Behind the Scenes - well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We recently undertook two behind the scenes tours both were very informative and engaging. We have taken the bird and giraffe tours which we have fed giraffes and seen how they train the birds for their free flight shows.

If you can get tickets to these events, do it.

While you're at it, become a zoo friend as well - annual membership gives you free entry :) That way you don't need to take in all of the zoo in one day.

It is best to start your tour from the top gate (if you arrive by ferrry, take the gondola to the top), then walk down hill.

“a zoo with a view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

possibly the best scenic view of the city skyline for Sydney. The zoo is ok, although not the best zoo I've ever been too. The giraffes are wonderful as are the sun bears. Disappointingly the koalas can only be seen up close if you book an animal encounter, but a good way to spend a few hours, quite an expensive trip.

“Great day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

I'd recommend taking the ferry from circular quay, you can buy a zoo pass which includes the ferry. Once at the zoo take the cable car over the zoo to the top entrance. Then you can walk down through the zoo. Zoo has all the usual animals so nothing special there. Of course there are Koalas, Wallabies and Kangaroos which are great. Nice to see the native nocturnal animals too, but very dark of course. A lot of the animals sleep/hide during the day and only come out a dusk (after the zoo closes) which is a shame.

Food was quite expensive and quality not great. The views of downtown Sydney are great from the view. It's not a cheap day out but worth seeing the native animalsl.

“Views to die for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

This was by no means our first visit to what is a relatively small, intimate zoo set on a steep hill! This is a zoo with a schedule of events from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm including not to be missed seal show at 2 pm and bird show at 3 pm.
But the zoo trip starts for us on the train to Circular Quay, then a ferry to the zoo with great views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. From the ferry terminal either walk in the lower zoo entrance and get the gondola or get the bus to the main entrance. You will be greeted by friendly, enthusiastic staff.
We only ever have one criticism, which is the same on all our visits and that is the catering facilities. They are cramped and the quality of food could be better.
However a great reason to go is the view over the Harbour. On a sunny clear day it takes a bit if beating. When in Sydney the zoo is a must particularly if you have children of any age.

“take the wild australian experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

our guide, Paul, is a zoo keeper at the zoo and he was very friendly and knowledgable. got to see behind the scenes and get up close and personal with koalas, kangaroos, wallabees, owl, possom, and gliders. included was a drink (soda or coffee) and snack (cupcake or muffin) from the snack bar near the entrance. the sky cable car was not operating the day we went due to high winds and it is quite a walk from the ferry entrance to the main entrance (we would have taken the bus had we known better) so plan accordingly so you're not late for your meeting time.
