“Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

My partner brought me here as a surprise and I was amazed, I'd been to the Quarantine Station before but didn't realise it now had accommodation. Our room had stunning harbour views and was very comfortable. The shuttle bus travels throughout the property and we used it for our dinner at the Boilerhouse. Otherwise it's a short and pleasant walk around the property to take in the historic buildings or relax on the beach. There are historic tours and ghost tours, a visitors centre with museum, kyaking, guest lounges scattered throughout the property with tea and coffee making facilities, everything you could want. Breakfast was lovely, as well as dinner. We saw wildlife at night (had a bandicoot on our verandah!) played pool on our way back from dinner and generally just relaxed and enjoyed the peaceful and unique environment. A MUST for overseas visitors wanting a genuine Aussie experience. I've travelled the world and I couldn't fault it, will definitely be back.

Room Tip: A room with a view is a must!

The QStation is a peaceful haven up on North Head, a 10 minute taxi or bus trip from the Manly Ferry terminal.
It's the reburbished Quarantine Station so it's not your normal highrise hotel - if that's what you want then this place is not for you. But if you want a calm and peaceful place to relax in or come back to at the end of the day then the QStation is perfect.
You usually have the beach to yourself, the restaurant is top class, and there are plenty of walks in the area. The staff were excellent.
The bus is not frequent but there are taxis for about $10.
The Manly ferry to Circular Quay takes 30 minutes - the weekly ferry/train/bus ticket is excellent value ($64 including the return trip to the airport).
Look out for QStation specials on accommodation websites.

We stayed at Q station just for a night which really wasn't long enough. It is the most stunning location and full of history and intrigue. We would really love to go back and do more exploring and try and check out some of the ghost tours etc.

Dear JackieL,

We're very happy to see you enjoyed your stay, it's always rewarding for us to see (and read) that our guests have enjoyed their visit. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that you can come and visit Q Station, have dinner in our Boilerhouse Harbourside Restaurant and do a ghost tour without actually having to stay here. It seems you're a local Sydney resident so just come and say hi for an evening, no need to stay the night if you don't want to.

Damien Riordan

Amazing history at this vast property. Stay the whole weekend and do some tours/walks around the property. You're close to the city but a world away. Beds are very comfortable. Some rooms have private, but external bathrooms - make sure you read the room description. Cars are not allowed to be parked near your room - a shuttle service is offered 0700-2300.

Dear MisterMMelbourne,

We're all glad to see that you enjoyed the visit and appreciate the feedback. We agree there is just too much to do here on an overnight visit, and there is so much more across North Head as well that our guests often don't get the time to enjoy.

Come back and visit us again, you're always welcome here at Q Station.

Found Q Station on Wotif by mistake…….wow what a find and what history. Our room was lovely. Our bathroom was separate, but what a view over Manly from the bathroom window.
Sitting on the verandah it was hard to believe I was still in Sydney. The buffet breakfast was very nice, lots of variety.
Would love to come back for a weekend and participate in one of the ghost tours.

Dear Erzulie3_13,

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! We agree we've got some of the best views in Sydney (albeit from some of the weirdest locations such as your bathroom). It's really great to see you enjoyed the history and layout of the property, we think it has such a relaxing feel to it and we always want our guests to share in that feeling too!

Thanks for the visit, and I guess we'll see you again soon.

We attended a corporate offsite at this venue. Overall impressions were:
1. The surroundings feel more like you are in a national park and not in the city.
2. The place is very spread out - so you need to get shuttle bus to rooom and walk down very long stairs to get to restuarant
3. The actual buildings reminded me more of school from the 1960s. So small blocks of old buildings.
4. The accomodation was nice, the rooms have been transformed and overall no complaints
5. Restaurant and overall food was impressive. The Boilerroom restuarant served some really lovely food and the venue was lovely and had a lot of character to it.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the harbour.

Dear SydneySydneyFamily5,

We're glad you enjoyed your time here for your corporate visit, we find that most guests who come here love the change from the standard hotel conference facilities they may go to elsewhere. I've shared your comments regarding Boilerhouse Harbourside Restaurant & Bar with our team and the Chef - be sure to visit us again soon as we launch a new menu down there in the next few weeks.

Again, thank you for the feedback and come back and visit us again soon.

I recently stayed at Q Station as part of a work conference. I was captivated by the place.

It is in a beautiful setting in Manly, away from the noise and bustle of the main strip. It has a magical atmosphere and feels quite removed from the rest of modern Sydney. The views over the water are quite incredible. There is a real sense of peace (almost like a place that time forgot) and relaxation here.

The rooms were full of character and mine had a private bathroom but I am aware that not all of them did. It was comfortable but the lack of air con might make it hot during the summer - even in late Summer, I had to have my ceiling fan on full blast. It was still warmer in the room than I normally like.

The rooms do not have great sound proofing. Many of the rooms share communal veranda space, so anyone walking these may pass through "private" space adjacent to rooms. The experience makes it clear that these were indeed designed for group or communal living for those undergoing quarantine in Sydney.

The dining was limited in choice but wasn't of bad quality. It was good but by no means spectacular. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Check in and check out were fantastic - all done in record time and without any fuss at all.

All in all, I really enjoyed staying here - stunning to arrive by water and to enjoy the peace of this place as a place of retreat in modern Sydney.

Room Tip: Check to see if you have a private bathroom or a communal one. Rooms in the previous "First Cl...
