“Everything costs extra”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We were told that the motel was 8 minutes from Lindhurst Station, took us 25 minutes, lot of it uphill to get there. Tried to get a taxi back down 2 days later to be told that will take 40 minutes. Another couple behind us were told the same. But only 15 minute walk back down.
The room was large, beds comfortable, with a decent shower room. Bit tired, could do with a makeover, and the aircon struggled. Some from cigarettes outside gets into ths room. Second cup of coffee at breakfast was $2-50 extra. Continental breakfast was included in the room price, but what you can have is tightly defined. Upgrade to a cooked, bacon and egg, is $18-50. Washing machine and drier were $4 each, other apts we stayed at this was included.
Is a useful place by the main western highway in Northern Sydney, but needs a bit of freshening, the swimming pool was full of leaves and the gym minute. Pity everything is add-on extra.

Room Tip: go for the top floor

What a breath of fresh air!...after a road trip from Qld and staying in VERY average motels at the same price, I was most impressed with Killara Motel. The amenities, with bar, restaurant mini bar and common lounge were all excellent. The service from all staff I encountered was exceptional especially Jeff and Kali for whom could not do enough to ensure a comfortable stay. Location is very central, easy to find.
I would expect to pay a lot more than the $120 per night in this location with the provided amenities. I will be back without question.

This motel reminded me very much of hotels in developing nations - all glitz, glamour and marble on the outside and squalor on the inside. Apart from the room being old and tired, which we could cope with, it was very dirty. The carpet was barely swept with dirt and leaves in the grooves of the sliding door. There was a plastic bag under one of the beds. There were pubic hairs left in the bathroom shower and in front of the toilet. The inside of the refrigerator was dirty. The glass table top had not been wiped and had finger marks on it. As far as safety was concerned - the bathroom door had an outside lock on it, so it could not be unlocked in case of an emergency inside the bathroom. The door to the second bedroom did not have a handle on it - so a parent could not access the room if a child was shut inside the room. There was no smoke alarm installed in the room. The kettle and toaster were perched on top of the refrigerator - very dangerous - as there was no available bench space to house them. The entry door rattled open during the night with moderate wind and there was no curtain or blind on that glass door to eliminate outside light shining into the unit. The bright outside light was left on all night.
Outside the unit was an unkempt garden with dying plants and drifts of leaves and dirt leading to the doorway of the unit.
This is the first and last time we will stay at this motel

We spent two days in the Killara Motor Inn this week and while I agree that the Motel itself is 3 stars my experience with the General Manager Arvind was 5 star and more. He was attentive to our every need and made us feel comfortable and welcome.

Like everything in Sydney it is difficult to get to the property but a helpful tip might be if you are going north look for the 7/11 on the left and the driveway to the motel is just before it in the pull off lane. If you are going south, yes you must go around the block at Fiddens Wharf Rd but it is easy, turn right a Fiddens Wharf, left at the roundabout and left at Commonwealth this will get you back to the highway where you turn left again and follow the north bound directions above.

Indian food is the speciality in the restaurant with some western dishes. I found it to be of good quality at a reasonable price served in good time.

The only thing I feel that does need urgent attention is the shower, a good scrub is in order, other than that it was a basic room with adequate facilities.

Thank you for your service Arvind it was very refreshing to find.

Room Tip: All rooms in our group appeared to be similar.

I tried to book their standard room online at the rate advertised on their website.

Shortly after I received a call to find out that the price of the room was $80 more than the advertised rate. Maybe they were busy or full or what ever their reason was - needless to say I found somewhere else to stay.

We used this as a one night stop on our travel from Victoria to the Sunshine Coast. We picked it due to the location as it's right on the Pacific Highway with easy access to the freeway and Sydney city.

Sure it's rather old and basic (we had the standard lowest cost room) but you're not going to find anything else this cheap so close to town. The service we received was also very good.

There is a restaurant there that looks nice, although we didn't try it. Their menu consists of both traditional 'Aussie' dishes as well as Indian cuisine.

The hotel itself is sort of right under the flight path but I only really saw domestic aircraft passing that I think cease operating late at night. I don't believe i was disturbed by it at all as I had a good sleep.

Although right on the Pacific Highway, no noticeable road noise and location (close to trains) good. Car park was a little busy on the Sat night, hard to find a spot when we returned but there is a Restaurant on site so that may explain it. Prices were good for the room.
