“Delightful alternative accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Unfortunately I stayed only one night here whilst attending a conference. I wish the conference had gone longer so I could have soaked up the atmosphere a little longer. It is hard to believe there are 19 rooms here. The decor is handsome and the hosts Rob and Jenny are so welcoming - I was made to feel at home straight away. What I really appreciated was a communal style kitchen - but this is no backpacker affair. This is classy. All basics are provided (plus some!! fruit, bread,) and the kitchen/dining room flow through to a wonderful herb garden which I imagine is awesome to sit in in warmer months to have breakfast, or whatever you rustle up for dinner... Dont be put off by shared bathrooms - these are well appointed, impeccably clean, private and plentiful (4). My tastefully decorated room was near the front door, which made it a little noisy as people came in at night but it was of no overall concern. Very comfortable bed, tea making facilities, robe to lounge in, Digital TV with internet access, comfy wingback chair and writing desk. I am disappointed with the couple of negative reviews on here which are clearly the result of people being ignorant. The property clearly states that bathrooms are shared, there are ceiling fans etc and the photographs of the property give an honest visual concept of the rooms. It is not a hotel. It is a lodge. I'll be back November . Thanks Rob and Jenny

What a delightful and happy review of the "Admiral Collingwood". We wish you'd have stayed in Sydney longer and we could have got to know you better. The ambiance in the hotel kitchen & dining room is quite extraordinary and we love it. It varies with whoever is here. We note bread consumption can go up extraordinarily with the French speaking guests and go unnoticed with Chinese guests and it is a great part of the experience. Looking forward to November.

Great time at admiral! Rob and Jennifer were really friendly and welcoming. We stayed 5 nights and we felt completely at home.

Complimentary breakfast with freshly squeezed OJ was amazing!

For people with bikes you can store them in the locked shed which is a massive bonus!

Quality hire bikes are available to rent which is great!

The backyard is beautiful to sit and eat your breakfast or dinner.

We got lost on our last day exploring Sydney and checked out late but Jennifer and Rob were really understanding.

Thanks for your amazing hospitality! We'll be back for sure.

Cyclists are always welcome at the "Admiral Collingwood" hotel, even if they eat huge breakfasts and turn up late, especially ones as charming as these. The Cycle Atlas crew really 'did' Sydney's bike trails. Round us there are lots, including the famous "Bay Run". These guys however even cycled to Wollongong - a bit far for us old codgers.

Huge room !! The architecture & ambiance really makes you feel like home. It feels really private. The location might look a bit far from Sydney CBD, but actually it is just a 15min ferry ride away ! Very convenient !

Thank you for your succinct, but accurate review of the "Admiral Collingwood" hotel. It's amazing how strangers to Sydney baulk at a 15 minute pure air trip thru the glories of Sydney Harbour, yet think nothing of a 15 minute walk thru Paris, New York or Shanghai with all the pollution.

The feeling of visiting a dear friends house, stayed with us all the time we were at Admiral Collingwood lodge. How lovely to be greeted so warmly by Rob and Jennifer, and then after a show and tell about the accommodation, to be quietly left alone to relax and do our own thing. The house is so clean, warm, relaxing and quiet, and nothing seems to be a problem with all the staff. After a successful shopping spree at Birkenhead I returned to sit in the garden with a freshly brewed coffee and a book, ah bliss.... Why would anyone stay at an impersonal, expensive, high rise unit when you can stay here. We will return...many thanks again Jennifer and Rob.

Room Tip: our front garden room suited us perfectly.

Thank you for your perceptive review of the "Admiral Collingwood" hotel. There is nothing like sitting in the Sydney sunshine on our lawn surrounded by our herb garden with a good book.

Large rooms, very clean and well maintained, felt welcome, very quiet for a Saturday night. Well positioned with easy street parking and short walk to the ferry which took us to Darling harbour within about ten minutes. Supermarket, pubs, restaurants also a short walk away. A beautiful building with a sunny outdoor area and herb garden. So much nicer than a hotel.

Such a nice succinct review listing all our good points - thank you. And I note from you previous reviews that, if appropriate, you are not at all afraid to call a spade an excrement removal tool. Glad we passed your tough judgment.

We were so lucky to find this place its an absolute gem and so cheap for its central location and beautiful rooms, I’ve never seen somewhere so clean. Rob the owner was extremely helpful and welcoming, he really made it feel like a home away from home.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. xo

This Lodge is a wonderful place to stay if you don't want a city position but want to be close to travel there. The rooms are large, and the beds comfortable. The shared private bathrooms are immaculately clean and are really not as much a hassle as you may think. There is a small selection of self serve breakfast foods, but the kitchen is open for any cooking you may wish to do. Free and fast wifi is available. Parking is no problem and timeless on the quiet street in front. Location is just 6 k's from city centre and easily reached by public transport or own car. The room rates are incredibly good value for what you receive. Plenty of shopping in walking distance.
Noise of planes overhead may bother some, but it is not everyday and you will get that in Sydney if your accomodation is under a flight path. The alternative of a city hotel where traffic noise is a problem during the night is worse than plane noise after 6.00am or before 11.00pm.
Provision of bath robes is a great idea for the shared bathrooms, however that idea would be complete with the additional provision of disposable foot slippers. A sink in each room saves going to the bathroom for water or cleaning teeth.

This was a really constructive and considered review of the "Admiral Collingwood" by a most experienced reviewer. Thank you for appreciation of so many of our good points. We do strive to give our guests the very best we can for comfort, cleanliness and a happy ambiance. We can't compete with the big chain hotels with their extensive facilities, pools, saunas and also keep prices down.
