“Consistently excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We eat here every few weeks and have done so for about 5 years. We have tried all the other Indian restaurants on the north shore and city and inner west. Malabar is consistently excellent. The dosai are always good. The curries are well spiced although occasionally the vindaloo tends to be a bit heavily salted. The onion bajis are very good. The tandoori chicken is even better now. The most special dish is the barramundi cooked in the tandoor. It works extremely well and is beautifully spiced. Well done Wilson!

“A nice local”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Malabar stands out in a suburb full of dining alternatives including quite a number of competing Indian restaurants. We went on a Monday night and the place was reasonably full but service ticked over well enough and the food was quite good and inexpensive. Wine list was well priced so a night out didn't break the bank. The food options are all listed with common allergens like gluten, diary and nuts which makes ordering so much easier and the selection for GF was really excellent. The dosai are fabulous but beware the servings are huge. Lamb sagwaal was really tender and the eggplant and potato curry was really smooth. The food isn't particularly spicy and I notice some other reviewers have said its not authentic - don't know as I'm not from South India - in fact not at all Indian so have little idea what "authentic" outside of India really means. I thought it was a nice enough meal for the price.

“Consistently Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

It was our favourite for a long time but had not eaten there quite a few years now. Found the food still very good, staff very attentive and food arrived quickly even though the restaurant was very busy on the Saturday we went back. The Dosa is crispy and tasty. Goat curry was great. The vegetable dishes were normal as compared to other Indian restaurants.

“Best Indian we have found Sydney Wide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

As an expat, pommie, who has been living in Oz coming up to 10 years finding a good Indian hasn't been easy. Fortunately some of my expat buddies put me on to Malabar. Wow its great food. The Dosai's aren't usually found on UK/Indian menus, but gosh they are great. Dont eat too much though, as whats to come with the onion bhaji's, kebabs, butter chicken tikkia chicken, lamb ....just keep it coming. This place is the place for the best indian in Sydney.
