I spent one night there 2 days ago. The name, Airport Hotel Sydney, is misleading. It is not a hotel at the airport or near the airport. This one is at around 10 min by car, in the middle of nowhere, just next to a very noisy road. That means that there, you are definitely far from any of the facilities one could find near an airport such as shuttles or trains to the center. Even a taxi driver drove me to another hotel, the Sydney Intl Inn hotel, where a young lady had the kindness to call another taxi and to give me the right address. Many thanks to her.
When I saw the place, I really thought there was, once again, a mistake. I entered and the receptionist gave me the badge to heaven or hell. He didn't give me any explanation at all. Just a question to know if I wanted to take the shuttle back to the airport. Full stop.
I had to take the stairs with my luggage, there is no lift. I am not supposed to take heavy weights but don't expect any help, they won't ask you.
So, I entered into the room. It is was simply shocking. I have, right away, the impression to be either in a monastery cell or in jail. A zen and forbidding design. A few lamps on the ceiling, 4 little windows covered by a store, a bed, 2 nightstands, a table, a chair and a small table with tea bags and coffee (you will have to look for the cups and spoons) and a TV screen. That's it, no cupboard, no safe.
The temperature in the room is close to the outside one: 19 degrees C. There is an air-co but it looks like it took its retirement scheme. The better is yet to come.
There is a shower with a door, a sink and a toilet with a simple wall, no door, no aeration system. That said, if you look at the professional pictures proposed for this hotel, you see that the toilet can be closed. This is, once again, misleading. Reality is what you could see on visitors' pictures: a toilet just next to the bed without any wall at all in most rooms. I had a business room... so I paid for a small wall. That is a room with a view.
It is easy to understand that temperature would fall during the night at the foreseen temperature around 8 degrees.
The situation was quite clear. I decided to try to warm me up under the covers. I immediately observed that a marvelous long black hair was on the sheet. I tried to sleep but there was a heavy wind coming from the windows. I lifted up the roll and observed that, between the spider nets and dust, the external window was cracked. So, the night was like expected, cold and noisy. In the morning, it was simply impossible to take shower and the rest.
As written by some reviewers, it might be a good place where to spend one hour or two. For sure, there are better places to go to for this kind of purposes.
Such a bad experience never again.
PS SABENA was the name of a Belgian airline Société Anonyme Belge de Navigation Aérienne, It was a good airline that closed in 2001 and was absorbed by Swissair
