Being a Westgate time share owner, I have had a terrible experience with this resort. Not only are staff rude and unprofessional but the majority do not know the Sunny Isle area and cannot help you with anything in the area. Additionally, No where is ther a sign for Westgate nor are there any Westgate personnel. If you bought a time share from this resort, you know of all the management problems that have caused the annual maintenance fees to sky rocket. This is the only Westgate resor that has these problems. What are current owners to do? There is not resale program and you are stuck with this horrible rising maintenance fees with horrible service from the resort and most of all horrible service from people like, MARTHA SAM, the president of the owner association. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING THERE. It is an extremely unfriendly place, they charge you an obscene amount of money for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and usually the food is cold and untasteful.

I must admit some concern after reading other online reviews. My experience couldn't have been better. Do your homework and you'll have no surprises. Yes, there's pay parking. Yes, there's construction in the area. Yes, this is a time-share property so confirming reservations is a must. Will I stay at the Newport Beachside Resort again? -As often as I get a chance!

My boyfriend and I had been planning our trip for months and we're very pleased when we arrived to the Newport Beachside Resort. We were going on a cruise and stayed here for 2 nights before the cruise.
We were given a 2 bedroom suite that had a king size bed in each room, a tv and a good sized dresser and a good amount of storage space for our belongs. (Which was way more than we needed but was very nice to have!) I brought some lysol and febreeze in case our room smelled like smoke at all (since I read previously that they were all smoking rooms), but there was no smell or traces of any smoking whatsoever which was really nice. Also, we didn't have any of the problems with hearing construction nearby that some people had mentioned.
We ate one night at the Italian restaurant inside the hotel and it was really good. We also ate out at the Tike bar one night which was fun and hung out at the outside bar which was very cool. The whole environment of this place was like something out of a movie!
The beach is gorgeous! There are plenty of chairs to lay out on so you don't have to worry about getting up super early to reserve any. Also the pool area is really nice and again we didn't have any problems getting a chair.
I don't understand how anyone could not like this place. I've been to hotels all over the countries and this has to be in the top 3.
One thing that did suck though was the cab ride from the airport to the hotel. It was $52 (which didn't include the tip). Also the cab ride to the port for the cruise was suppose to be a flat rate of $52 but we got charged a few dollars more b/c we sat in traffic. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on cab fares if that's your primary means of transportation. There is public transportation but we didn't feel like messing around with it b/c we weren't sure all the places it went to and our time was so limited that we didn't want to be stuck making like twenty stops before arriving to our destination.
The Adventura Mall which is like a 10 minute cab ride is great! It has all the stores you would imagine to find and lots of restaurants. I think it was about 3 stories.
Overall, I would really like to go to this place again and definately stay longer that just 2 nights. Don't let anyone's negative experiences or judgement keep you from staying here. You will definately like this place

We only stayed one night and wish we would have stayed at least another night. We stayed previous in Ft. Myers and Newport in Miami was much nicer. Ft. Myers was much more of a party beach (we were there on spring break) so Miami fit our age group much better! We like to have a glass of wine on the beach and some areas don't allow drinking and then some are full of partiers. We were able to have our evening wine on a beautiful, quiet beach. We want to go back but next time take a day cruise over to the Bahamas. An advertisement went over in a small plane while we were on the beach. We didn't have passports with us but will next time.

The minute we walked in to the room the stench was overwhelming. We requested another room and it was even worse. The tacky, worn, old room was way overpriced for what you were getting.
The three star rating on this hotel is a joke.
We checked out that same day and because we liked the area, checked in to a newer hotel down the street.
It was little more money but what a difference.

Location is Excellent. It is 15-20 minutes to Ft. Lauderdale airport and 30-40 to Miami's. South beach is about 30-45. On either side of Newport you are flanked by very nice condos and resorts. A newer condo can easily run one to two million bucks. It is a quiet area yet close enough (15-60 minutes) to hoppin places in South Beach, Hollywood or Ft. Lauderdale.
Rooms are OK. Clean enough but dated.
Lobby is fair. Again, dated.
Pool area is very nice. Live entertainment (mostly steel drums) every day. Tons of fun, hoaky activities to keep the kids (and my mother-in-law) busy.Tiki bar serves pretty good food and drinks at reasonable prices. At 1:30 each day entire pool area is blanketed in shade due to condo tower being built next door. I'm guessing this is a problem even at the million plus condos as they have stacked them like dominos over the last 10 years. Not really such a problem as everybody simply moves to the beach area.
Beach is excellent. Spacious area has a play area for kids with trampoline, slides etc. Cabanas and umbrellas can be rented pretty cheaply or simply sit one one of the lounge chairs dragged down there by the hotel. They also have servers to bring you drinks and food from the Tiki bar.
Mama Bella's Italian/Steak House was surprisingly good and very reasonable. Ate there 5 nights and everything was good to very good.
I'm not a buffet guy. The breakfast buffet was lousy and at $13--no bargain. I ate there just once and then found much better options in the area.
Staff is very friendly especially valet parkers and bellmen. Bartenders and servers can get a little overwhelmed during peek times but they too are friendly.
Overall, Newport provides the opportunity to stay in a very nice area cheaply. If you have kids, appreciate value and do not expect 5 star pampering--you will love Newport.

My husband and I left NYC about 6 hours before the Feb. 11th snowstorm. Having made travel plans only 3 days earlier, we arrived at the Newport with open minds, expecting to be near a beach (good enough compared to winter in NY, but that's about it.) It was a very pleasant surprise: a well-maintained 12-story beachfront resort, with 2 beautiful pools, one full-size, one kiddie-size, and plenty of daily activities for everyone.
The rooms are apartments, and they vary in size. We were given a huge one-bedroom unit upon arrival, and discovered a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom with a broken switch. The very accomodating manager immediately switched us to another one-bedroom unit, smaller, but on the beach side of the building, with a balcony (always my choice.)
The hotel is on a strip of beach about a 20 minute drive north of Miami Beach proper, formerly known as Sunny Isles Beach. There are several decent restaurants in walking distance across A1A, and many more within driving distance. (Don't leave the Miami area without stopping at Joe's Stone Crab in South Beach.) If you prefer, you never have to leave the resort for meals. The lobby cafe offers a good $10 all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, and is open for lunch as well. The Italian restaurant and coffee bars are also fine. There is also a tiki bar by the pool, and Pelicans on the Pier, an open-air place that serves good, reasonably-priced food, and is really fun.
Drawbacks include having to pay for daily parking ($8 for self-parking in lot across busy highway A1A, or $12 for valet parking), and every room is a smoking room, with windows that are designed not to open, to minimize mold problems. Make sure you reserve a balcony room so you can at least get a breath of the lovely fresh air. All in all, it was a great 1-week getaway. Best of all (almost): when the bill came, it was $125 a day instead of the $179 I was quoted (on the website that shall remain nameless) when I made the last-minute reservation.
