“Our beautiful home-away-from-home in San Pancho”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

We have just returned from staying at Casa Obelisco, and are already talking about plans to return. Having been invited to a destination wedding in San Pancho, we needed to find lodging that was a good fit, so we turned to TripAdvisor for help in our selection. We found all of the positive user reviews and ratings about Casa Obelisco to be true, and in fact, inadequate to describe how wonderful the accommodations are. Our suite was large, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The location is ideal: close enough to town to reach by foot or golf cart, but far enough away so that the only noise you'll hear are ocean waves and jungle birds. Bill is a gracious, knowledgeable and very helpful host, not to mention a great cook who provided delicious, healthy breakfasts and great suggestions about restaurants and excursions. Finally, we found San Pancho to be a very safe and friendly town, and felt welcomed everywhere we went, made perfect by ending our day each night at the delightful Casa Obelisco.

Back in April (we are sorry it's taken so long to write this review) my husband and I made the long trip from the UK to San Pancho. We had a wonderful time and a large part of that was due to the fabulous experience we had at Casa Obelisco. We were catered for by host Bill. Bill was the perfect host, always helpful but never pushy. There was something magical about the San Pancho beachside, the choppy waves ensured that the beaches even at the highest season were not littered with people. The house was very roomy and comfortable, very quiet. We stayed in the generously sized Vista Bellena. We spent lovely afternoons there having a siesta. We enjoyed our breakfasts with the other guests very much th ey took place on a wonderful balcony with a view of the sea and accompanied by their two dogs (and occasionally one or two similar looking but very different cats).

Room Tip: The saloon doors to the bathroom were the only irritation.

There are places in life that you come across and forever change you. Casa Obelisco and San Pancho is one of these destinations. The lively little town will surround you with friendly people, fantastic restaurants with extremely talented musicians, an amazing stretch of pristine beach, and starry nights like you've never seen before. Casa Obelisco is truly the best of both worlds - spacious rooms with dreamy king-sized beds with doors that open poolside and to the rhythmic sounds of waves crashing to shore...partnered with amenities, tasty breakfasts, and amazing inn owners that will make the experience at Casa Obelisco customized for you. Here you unwind, you recharge, you refresh...and you immediately start planning your return!

We just returned from a wonderful trip to the quiet little town of San Pancho. What a great place to visit--excellent restaurants, a fabulous uncrowded beach, art galleries and Casa Obelisco. This small charming b&b (4 rooms) is at the end of the beach and the end of the road in this small town about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. The rooms are beautifully decorated with Mexican art and crafts and are very large with private patios. There's a pool with a swim-up bar and each afternoon Evy comes to make specialty drinks and snacks. The owners, John and Judy and Bill and Barbara, are very friendly and accommodating and the breakfasts are to die for! We will definitely return to Casa Obelisco!

At the end of a mile-long empty beach, in a beautiful and safe Mexican pueblo, lies Casa Obelisco, one of the world's most romantic hideaways. This is our winter getaway -- a place to escape snow and stress. We've come here often, because this is our escape, our sanctuary. You can spend hours on your patio, reading, writing, doing crossword puzzles, or just dreaming away the afternoon. There's never any pressure to find the right chair around the pool -- take your pick from the comfy sea-blue chaise lounges, in shade or sun. Afternoons, the thatched roof bar is staffed by Evvy, super bartender and chef, who will whip you up one of the world's best margaritas, or a yummy chicken quesadilla, and who will patiently let you practise your Spanish with her -- even if it is limited to only a few words.

Casa Obelisco has four perfect bedrooms -- spacious, quiet, with large sheltered patios, comfortable beds, and lovely folk art decorations. We like Las Flores, with its blue coloured walls and perfect views, but you will be just as happy in any of the other four rooms.

Breakfast is served at 9:30 a.m. (though you can get coffee earlier if you are an early riser). Great food -- heart shaped berry pancakes on Valentine's Day, or Mexican specialties like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. But the best part of the breakfast -- and of Casa Obelisco -- are your warm and welcoming hosts. Join the other guests -- and they always seem to be interesting people -- for long conversations with hosts Judi and John over your second or third cup of coffee. Topics range from world affairs, to wine, to folk art, to travel, and guests and hosts quickly make connections over the breakfast table.

Casa Obelisco is home to a few friendly dogs and cats. We've grown fond of Kahlua, the wonderdoodle. And if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse or a purr from Tucker, John and Judi's lovebug cat!

Evenings you will find many great restaurants in San Pancho. Mar Plata is steps away from Casa Obelisco, and has superb steak and frites. La Ola Rica, always a favourite, makes the best coconut shrimp and carne asada in the world. We also enjoyed Maria's, especially on nights with live music, and the mango margaritas at La Playa on the beach can't be beat.

Don't miss the Friday night art walk in San Pancho -- enjoy shopping for art, jewelery and crafts while sipping free wine and walking down the main street towards the beach. This year, there is also a lovely small golf course that has opened right in town, where you can rent clubs and play on the greenest of greens. Best of all, though, you can spend your days wandering the beach, watching the sea birds fly overhead, listening to the pounding surf, and making your plans to return to Casa Obelisco again, and again, and again.

Casa Obelisco is a charming bed and breakfast with four guest rooms at the end of the beach in San Pancho, an exceptionally pretty and relaxed town 25 miles north of Puerto Vallerta. The Inn is very well appointed with big rooms, ample patios, and charming architectural details consistent with the Mexican style. The heated pool comes with a staff member who will get together an order of guacomole or a quesadilla to go with a marguarita in the afternoon sun. The convivial breakfast served by the hosts provides a relaxed start to the day and an opportunity to meet the other guests and get tips on hikes, shops, or restaurants. The sound of crashing waves from the beach across the street provides a gentle background sound effect that works well with the sea breeze. Although a rental car allows exploration to neighboring towns and beaches, it is completely optional. The 15 or 20 minute walk into town on the beach or on the road is lovely and a taxi ride can be had for the equivalent of a couple of dollars.

Casa Obelisco, a B&B in San Pancho, is the perfect place to spend time close to the water's edge. The owners, John and Judy are not only welcoming, but make the most delicious breakfasts you'll ever eat. The B&B is nestled in a small fishing village that offers a unique and relaxing Mexican experience. The rooms are spacious and provide a most pleasant ambiance. The bottom of the pool is tiled in the shape of a hibiscus (in Spanish: obelisco) and the rooftop provides a view of the pool and unforgettable sunsets. We loved our time in the casa and were happily busy in the surrounding area. If you travel to Mexico don't miss this perfect little gem.
