“Sweet home Jungle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Tamara truely made us feel at home in her little piece of jungle.
We spend a few nights (and a few too little =) at casa Tejone, which was super comfortable while also being built using lots of natural ressources from the area and minimizing the impact on this beautiful piece of land.
it really feels like you are in the middle of the jungle outside on the terraze where we were fortunate enough to be awaken once by Coatimundi, once by Chacalacas (a kind of wild turkey) and once by Parrots.
An early morning yoga session on the upper Yoga deck with great views over the pazific was only topped by the gourgeous little cove you get to after taking a short little jungle trail downhill through prime old grown forrest.
Whoever wants AC and TV should stay in PV, but to all of us a bit adverturous romatic healthy nature lovers, this is the place to spend at a wonderful holiday!

We discovered Tailwind Jungle Lodge via coincidence during our research for an extensive road trip through Mexico and though we actually first wanted to travel solely through the Yucatan Peninsula and Chiapas & Tabasco, we could not resist but deciding to take the detour via domestic flight to Puerto Vallarta in order to be able to stay a few days at this paradise right in the jungle, but also with access to the beach. It is overall in a remote location, but San Pancho - a lovely little town - is only about 10 minutes away, if you want to have it a bit livelier in the evening for a change or don’t fancy cooking but eating out you won’t have a problem, provided you have your own car which I would highly recommend.

The family in charge is really making an effort to give you a good picture on what to expect. Before arriving we already received detailed information on how to find the Lodge, which was very helpful as we experienced that navigation systems often don't work in certain areas in Mexico, information about the Lodge itself, rules to follow to protect its environment and the surrounding areas. Upon arrival we were provided on further information on beaches and walking trails, though some of the beaches proofed difficult to find if you don't know the area and are unable to ask the locals for directions.

We were renting the Casa Pumita which was pricey but so unique, I doubt you will find this a second time in the world! This Casa was a lovely little two floor house with a breathtaking view over the jungle and the ocean! We had a little patio on the roof though that did not really seem to be in use anymore, and a big furnished patio connected with living room and fully equipped kitchen! The accommodation itself was overall tastefully furnished and cosy! If you want to do your own romantic dinner, watching the sunset and later admiring the stars, having drinks and enjoying the peaceful of the jungle yet being at least a little bit separated from it, that's your place! We generally found it a good place to unwind and relax, as there are hardly disturbing influences such as noise or crowding as you experience in most places to stay, I make the slight limitation as we were slightly impacted by construction works which were going on in close proximity during our stay.

We also loved the little dipping pool to cool down in-between as the sea was very wild with strong currents and not ideal for swimming and on some days we had the impression the water smells a bit strong, but the beach connected to the property is private and hence hardly visited and beautiful :).

The only and minor cons were the mosquitoes which have been bitten us badly despite mosquito net over the bed and repellent (I think it happened especially during sitting on the patio in the evenings) and that there was no cleaning service included in our four nights stay, which we were not aware of first. I has not really bothered us as we are quite clean people, but we however would have preferred if someone would have swept through every other day as our accommodation was not a closed property the creepy crawlies found their way in and started to crawl about or lie dead here and there soon. Of course, we understand things like this are not to avoid being in the jungle though I think as someone who is not used to this environment might be likely to forget to consider it while being carried away by the stunningly designed casita and the amazing views hence I point it out.

We overall enjoyed our stay very much and I think we would most likely return, if it would not be such a far way for us as it is a unique experience and it is opposing the typical mass tourism we anyway don’t like. The whole place is well maintained, the hosts are friendly and it is great to relax!

Tailwind may not be perfect for everyone, but it sure was for us.
It can be considered either a very rustic hotel or very luxurious camping, depending on which unit you stay in and how you approach the experience. Either way, Judy and Tigre are wonderful people and accommodating hosts. We found it helpful to have a car (ideally 4 WD) so we could travel into San Pancho (5-10 minute drive) for grocery shopping, meals and Mexican culture. San Pancho is much quieter than Sayulita but only a 10-minute drive away. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper since the palapas and bungalows do not have doors that can be closed. We had no problems with insects or other critters. Nearby Playa de los Muertos is a totally private and beautiful place to spend time and can be reached on foot in less than 15 minutes.

Room Tip: We loved the palapas.

I drug my best friend all the way to Mexico to go stay in the jungle with me for 7 days to away from it all, and we landed at Tailwinds where Tamara and Jungle Judy made us feel right at home immediately. Even let my friend borrow Poncho-the-Dog as a night sentry to make her feel a little more at ease.
The jungle takes a little getting used to. You have to trust you will be safe (you will be) and that you will be taken care of (you will be) and that you will breathe deeply and soak in all the beauty (you so will).
We hiked to the little beach at the bottom of the jungle and loved it, then hiked a little more to the super private beach up over the hill, and loved that more. It was gorgeous and isolated and so picturesque. (see photos)
I spent almost all my time when I was not hiking out to the beach in the hammock of the main Palapa Tigre and read a ton, and stared at the jungle and listened to the birds... even made friends with the mischievous tejones when they came snooping around for food.
Speaking of food, we used a driver service to pick us up in P.V and drive us out and they took us to the Mega for a food trip so we stocked up and did most of our eating at the Lodge, but for roughly $11 you can take the taxi into town and enjoy the great places in little San Pancho. Which is an adorable little town.
Make sure to check out the San Pancho community center - EntreAmigos - while you are there and have some flan and coffee in their cafe and buy some locally made goodies to help support that amazing place. Thanks to Jungle Judy for telling us all about it.
If you can, DO take the kayak trip with Tamara and Judy - WOW! That was a highlight of the trip. Beautiful and we learned much about the flora and coastline. I could have stayed out there allll day.
Overall, I loved the privacy, the relaxed feeling, the sheer beauty and the security of this lovely spot. I will most certainly return again!

So, get online and book this trip, you won't be sorry! Just GO!

P.S. Make sure to bring biodegradable toiletries, unscented sunblock and plenty of bug spray, and shoes made for walking over the brush and dirt hills and. (I brought waterproof closed toe crocs that worked well)

Room Tip: I loved the Palapa Tigre and the "attached" Palapa Gecko below it for my friend. spacious...

We just returned from a week long holiday in Mexico! It was our first time traveling to Mexico and we didn't know much about the area or Tailwind. Tamara, the owner/manager, was amazing right from the beginning answering all of our questions via email in the months prior to the trip.
We stayed in Casita Pumita, one of the larger units, with our daughter (14) and son (9).
The units are very basic but are very comfortable. We loved going to sleep every night listening to the ocean crash on the beach and the jungle noises.
It is a great place to unplug, which is just what we all needed.
There is no food/beverage service but it is easy enough to get groceries and the units have enough cooking equipment for basic meals.
I would highly recommend Tailwind for families or friends who want to get away from it all!

Room Tip: The view from Casita Pumita is amazing, so I would recommend booking this unit if you need a unit th...

Tailwind Jungle Lodge helps you realize it's fun to be adventurous. Whether you are on your own or with your partner, it's a place you really need to experience. After your stay, you'll realize that this would have been on your bucket list had you known it existed. This was a return visit for me and this year, I had a chance to see whales performing in the horizon and just by chance, baby turtles taking their first swim into the ocean. My husband and I went kayaking with Tamara, while dolphins swam nearby. The water was so clear you could see the ripples in the sand below. If you love sandy beaches, tasty Mexican cuisine, rustling palm leaves, tropical flowers, the sound of waves crashing, cobblestone roads, and friendly people then you'll love the local town - San Pancho. The hardest thing to deal with, is knowing you have to check out.
I'm sure you'll want to return like me!

I spent a week at Tailwind in February for a retreat. I absolutely loved it here! I stayed in the Palapa Tigre which has an amazing patio overlooking the trees, swimming pool and the ocean. There is a full size fridge, kitchen, bbq and dining table, all outdoors! The bedroom is mainly enclosed with two large closets.
Tamara, Judy & Tigre were extremely welcoming and very willing to help in any way. They offered hiking tours, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. A friend of mine did the kayak tour and was very happy with it.
The beach is about a 10 minute hike and completely beautiful. It is fairly private, shared only with a few other lodges.
I would recommend renting a car to drive into some of the local towns, San Pancho, Sayulita and Punta Mita were the ones we went to often. They all have great beaches and local food to enjoy.
I'm hoping to return next year!
