I needed a couple of nights accommodation in Machynlleth while I was there for a meeting. Given that it was midwinter, some places were closed, but Maenllwyd was open and available. A quick phone call was all it took to book, and even though it was a weekend, there was only one other person there for one night, so it was a pretty quiet place to stay. It's an old house, but well decorated, set in its own spacious grounds, with a large back lawn. The only 'formality' i could see was that you are asked to tick boxes on a breakfast form the night before, then everything turns up as requested, at the time arranged, once you're sitting in the dining room in the morning. Apart from that, guests can come and go as they please, and the centre of Machynlleth is barely 5 minutes stroll from the door. The only thing I could have wished for was better weather at that time of year, but that's beyond the remit of the guest house!
