What a beautiful place for a hotel. This may be one of the most picture perfect spots I have ever stayed. The views over the lake are breathtaking. The room I had was spacious, clean and comfortable. The food in the dining room (also over looking the lake) was excellent. The only minor complaint I had was that my room was over the designated smoking area so was a bit noisy. But compared to the rest of the value and beauty, a minor complaint!

We loved this hotel! found the staff friendly and very efficient. Our room was fantastic with a balcony over looking the lake (perfect) The food was amazing!!!! lovely atmosphere in the dining room. We will be returning very soon.
The only thing we were suprised to find was that the hotel charged to use the spa? I have never come across this before.

Very expensive for what it is.

We booked a weekend there. The hotel itself is a little bit on the grotty side, the rooms are nice but the hallways could use a bit of a freshen up.

The restaurant service was badly trained. We were rushed through our food, even after requesting a break. We couldn't quite relax. The food itself was hit and miss; my wife had a very good lamb dish where as I had an overcooked steak, with a dodgy tomato and mushroom thing you'd be accustomed to seeing in a fryup. None of the fine wines were chilled, and confusingly they came on a separate wine list (even though the main wine list had items just as expensive). Similar to the food, we found the wines were well overpriced.

The next night we ate in the pub, which as one reviewer has already pointed out is terrible.

With paying an additional 20 pounds to use the very small spa (without a pool), we came away with the feeling of being ripped off. We've been to similarly expensive hotels before, and the quality of this one in no way matches up.

We visited this hotel in October and enjoyed it so much that we booked a second trip last weekend (Feb 8th). The first time we stayed in room 43 which has a large 4 poster bed and large bathroom and fantastic view with good size balcony. The restuarant was good although we didnt get to sit at the window but against the wall. Because the location was fantastic and the room was so good we booked again but had a very different experience. The view remains the main reason for our enjoyment and we cycled round the lake and went on a walk - both of which were very nice and relaxing. The room however, 54, was very dull (yellow walls and blue carpet) with a large bed (not 4 poster) and an unexceptional bathroom even though it was in the same price range as our first room. We specifically requested to be sat in the restuarant next to the window but, even though tables were available, did not get shown to one. The breakfast service was unbelievably slow and sloppy with waitresses dropping cutlery on the floor and wandering off without picking it up! The evening restuarant food was really nice and the staff very helpful - I dont know what happens to them over night.
Until I read othe reviews I thought we were being picked on. Having rtead other reviews I know that this is the norm and I'll be reluctant to return. The location really is the best thing and like many of the reviewers I would love to see what are very small issues improved on to make this a truly amazing place to stay.

The location cannot be surpassed and the view from the hotel rooms facing the lake are magnificent. Walks are great and there is plenty to see and do.

That said, the hotel needs a bit of wake up call. We stayed in standard room facing the lake, the decor needs updating, the window frames replacing - very windy and you certainly feel the draught. Lighting is poor and the heating inadequate - but these pale into insignificance when considering the bathroom. What a disaster! The whole room needs to be scrapped, circa 1980 at a guess. Shower did not work at all, only managed to get cold water, bath tucked into corner with no light and nice draught from nearby window. No storage, one tiny shelf for everything, carpeted throughout - not a good idea. Heating inadequate.

To add insult to injury during our stay water went off - not the hotel's fault apparently but no-one contacted us, no information. Billions of gallons to look at through the window but nothing coming out the taps! Hotel food is very average - sprouts still served with the mixed veg!

Pub is terrible and food there awful. beer just as good! Cold, horrible place. Could be improved with ball and chain.

All in all a great deal of improvement required but the views are stunning and the location breathtaking. Just a pity about the hotel really, could be so much better.

After travelling for 4 hours we manage to find this lovely hotel. We arrived at dark so we could appreciate the view at arrival and that probably made our breakfast even more special! What a view! The food in restaurant was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was with a garden view, spacious and clean. The only thing we didn't like was the pub next door. What a dive!! Awful beer, smell of stail beer and not very well kept.

Have just returned from a three day New Years Break break at Lake Vyrnwy. This is a fascinating country house hotel with a brilliant location. The views from most rooms are breath taking and one of the best features of the hotel.

The activities and celebrations were well organized though not quite on the level of last years.

I found the food to be of a good standard and any complaints were dealt with promptly and with no fuss.

This hotel is mostly staffed by locals, although there are also some European staff, the service was always polite if a little slow at times.

We stayed in the older part of the hotel and found our room to be of a good size (Rm31) with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. The bathroom whilst clean does need a little more care particularly the paint work, mastic and grouting which all seemed rather tired.

The new rooms and Spa area are now open and many of the guest I spoke to were pleased with this part of the accommodation. My wife enjoyed a head and foot massage for over an hour for a charge of £50. She felt it was relaxing and worth the money.

Overall this is not a cheap hotel though I did think that it just about gave value for money over the New Year.
