“Fantastic place to stay. Lovely family run pub and restaurant. Quality !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2010

A superb place to stay. The rooms were very modern and clean, noticable the bathrooms. The food in the restaurant was excellent. so much so we all had three courses. Very reasonable priced for such quality. The pubs two bars catered for all age groups. Us mature girls prefered the snug with the log fire, just what you need on a foggy weekend in November. The staff and, i must say, all the locals were very friendly and made us feel welcome. One of the nicest place we have stayed.

Okay, you will read other reviews about the noise from the bar and outside garden, but in reality this isn't really a problem and when the bar shuts the noise stops. For the price, the rooms were very clean and tidy, but my wife did miss a mirror in the bedroom when she was drying her hair. We checked in at 5:00PM and it would have been nice to have been told that the restaurant was very busy that night and booking was essential. We came down to eat at 7:00PM, after a wash and change to be told there was no way we would be getting a table that night and had to eat on a very low table in the bar. At breakfast the next day though the waitress was brilliant, as was the food. 10 out of 10 for the full English.
Summary : good value for money and well worth a look.

Friendly welcome, good size double room with all facilities you could require (including a wardrobe - see earlier review). Unable to eat in restaurant as a function (althought we requested it when booking - no one got back to us to let us know no restaurant avaialble that night) - made welcome in bar & food was good quality & reasonable prices. Good position in town but lacked car parking. Street parking is available after 6pm. Would stay there again.

Stayed here one night on our cycling holiday. The Inn is pleasingly located at the bottom of the very steep hill into Knighton (we'd already climbed enough mountains for the day!). The bedrooms have been built over the restaurant, you need to climb up wooden steps on the outside to get to them, which is a bit slippy in the rain (it IS Wales, after all!).The rooms are attractively decorated but a little on the small side, and don't have wardrobes, which is strange. The bathrooms are very spacious, down a couple of steps from the bedroom. Nice wooden floor covering, big bath, but hard to get rid of the condensation - needed to be better ventilated. Nevertheless a very pleasnat well-lit bathroom.

We had dinner in the restaurant, it was very good - wide choice, locally sourced food, very pleasant staff.

We needed an overnight stop in the area and this pub did the job nicely. Our reservation enquiry was dealt with promptly and efficiently by email, and we also booked a table in the restaurant. We arrived at 8:00pm on a busy Saturday night and had to queue at the bar to get our key. We had a nice room in the converted stable block above the restaurant. The only minor criticism would be the lack of space for bedroom furniture, but it was no problem for a short stay. There was a reasonable choice of dishes on the menu, the service was quite quick and the food was good value. Breakfast the next morning was also excellent. A previous reviewer mentioned the noise from drinkers; well, it was noisy outside our room, but we were tired enough to get to sleep without a problem.

Not having booked anywhere to stay on our trip to Knighton we where pleased to see a welcoming looking small hotel with vacancies. We were shown to our room and I must say we where very pleasantly surprised by to quality of the bathroom in particular. The bed was not the most comfortable as the under sheets tended tto make you very warm at night. maybe they could get better quality ones.
The evening meal was amazing. It is most definatly NOT pub grub!!! It is as good as any 4* hotel I've ever stayed at. The restaurant was very busy with large parties arriving without booking yet everything ran so smooth. The Breakfast was also of great standard.

My husband and I arrived at The Horse & Jockey at 4pm on Friday 23rd July (my birthday) We bought a drink in the bar and announced our stay and a lovely lad behind the bar showed us to our room, after we had drank our much needed drink after three hours travelling. The room was of a very high standard and a had a beautiful ensuite. We laughed at the name on the stable door 'BOOZEY' as we thought it very apt for us. We had visited to meet up with friends that live in Knighton and thoroughly enjoyed the company of all. The breakfast was magnificent served by Jackie the landlady and cooked by her husband, could not be faulted. The evening meal and content of menu was magnificent, I had homemade Pate and fillet steak to die for. I only wish we had eaten therer again, but were whisked off by our friends to eat elsewhere, which I hasten to add was the worst meal and service I have ever had, it was called The Jolly Frog, beware we spent all night fighting off flies. I have booked to go back to The Horse & Jockey on 21st August for the weekend and am really looking forward to it. I would recommend this establishment to anyone, and believe you me I am a very picky person. Look forward to seeing Jackie and the staff again on the 21st August.
