My partner and I stayed at Black Hall Wigwams for 3 nights on 25th March 2013 and we were very impressed during our stay!
It had been snowing heavily for several days prior to our visit and the whole area was covered in a thick white blanket. Although we were the only wigwam visitors to brave the cold weather and road closures, the owners were more than happy to clear the paths to our wigwam and kitchen/toilet block. Our 2 wheel drive car was also finding it hard to get from reception to the wigwams, so the owner took us, the dog and all the camping equipment up in their 4 wheel drive vehicle. They could have easily phoned us to cancel our holiday, which probably would have been more cost effective, since the whole kitchen/toilet block building was kept open just for us. This must have been quite expensive because the block is heated by a wood burning heating system 24 hours a day. A gentleman came every morning to add more fuel to the block.
The toilets, showers and kitchen are the cleanest and most well looked after of all the sites that I have tayed at so far. Although the website states to bring cooking utensils, crockery etc, if you only remembered your food, you'd still manage because there is plenty of spare cuttlery, crockery and utensils etc in the kitchen.
The leisure centre is also spotless! It comprises of a reception, games room (large tv, comfy leather seating with recent magazines, selection of books, pool table, table tennis and a soft childrens play area), pool area (pool, changing rooms, sauna and steam room), pool viewing and mini gym (exercise bike and cross trainer etc). You can even rent DVDs from a selection at the reception. We went in the pool and steam room every day and it fely like we were in a top quality spar, as there were very few people around. One new feature to me was the underfloor heating in the changing rooms. This mean that it soon dried out, minimising the worry of getting clothes wet when changing and it also felt good on your feet. "No rushing to get socks and shoes on!"
The staff are very friendly and halpful, and although it is a working farm, they are only a few minutes away when you need anything. All it takes is a call fron the 2 way radio at reception and somebody will be with you. THe other good thing about the staff is that they put a lot of trust in their guests and let you go about your holiday without being intrusive in any way. You'll probably only hear from them if you need them for anything. The way a peaceful holiday should be!
Overall, Black Hall Farm has it all! There's something for any type of party no matter what their size or their budget.
We hope to stay again in the near future!
