“1 Star accomadation at 4 star prices”

I must first say that I read the reviews on Trip Advisor before we booked this accommodation and looked at the TYF website.

I am also willing to accept that if your company is paying for the trip and there is a large group, the lack of any really comforts may not be an issue.

What is not made clear on the website or here on Trip Advisor is that this is 1 Star accommodation. The rooms are very basic and not welcoming (our en-suite room had a wardrobe without any hanging rail, 2 waiting room type chairs). There was also no TV in the building either shared or in the room.

When we arrived at 17:30 in the evening, we were met (I cannot say greeted) and showed to our room. Our host then left us alone and did not return until the morning. By alone, we were the only ones in the building with no way of asking for directions around the city or help in finding something to do.

The breakfast was healthy but for the price, I expected something much better/substantial. We did not stay the second night.

The next night we stayed at 'The Waterings' which is about 100 meters from this accommodation and was better equipped/friendlier/cheaper by £10/night.

If you are paying for an adventure holiday during the summer (we weren't), then this place might be worth it (although we were not offered any discounts) but it is most certainly not worth staying there as a place to explore St David's and the surrounding countryside.

    • Liked — Quiet (no other guests or staff to disturb us at night). A little too quiet really.
    • Disliked — At half the price, it may have been acceptable but I would not have booked it.
    • Tips/Secrets: — Always enquire of the star rating of the accommodation. Do not assume it is priced correctly.

I was lucky enough to be sent to Twr-y-Felin for a week's "teamworking" course by my employer (the Bank of England). I can safely say that it was the best week "in the office" that i've ever had. Under the auspices of the TYF company, we did kayaking and coasteering - hair-raising, wet and cold, but exhilarating - and on return from such hearty activities to the hotel were greeted with tea and home made cake. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were object lessons in how to make simple but extremely tasty meals from good, seasonal, mostly organic local ingredients (including on one night a duck breast about the size of a rugby ball). Rooms are simple but clean and charming. The views from the top of the tower (it used to be a windmill) of the Pembrokeshire coast are stupendous. Awesome.

What a great locale to take a group of disengaged teenagers so that they could gain a new experience and a different perspective from the world that they live in. Im a project manager for a training organisation who deal with young people who have lost their way or indeed perhaps have not found it yet. I wanted a group of young people to experience some outdoor activities that would encourage confidence, teamwork, committment and effort in surroundings that were alien to them. All this was achieved with the added bonus of a relaxed, comfortable environment that had a charming ambiance, sociable management and staff with, as it turned out fantastic food that was not expected, superb! Well done and thankyou to Manager Cliff and his team who went out of their way to accomodate the young people and my team over food choice and timings as well as creating a lively and enjoyable social time sat by the open fire. The bottle of red wine( for my team and I) suggested, was delicous just like the food, all of this helping to give a positive experience to a group of youngsters who were not used to this kind of social interaction. The activities were also exciting and professionally run as well. And remember the hotel is surruonded by wonderful scenary and coast line, it was a really calming break even with a group of teenagers. Can't wait to go back. perhaps I will take the wife next time!!!
