“Way overpriced!”

We totally regret booking this hotel without researching it first. We stayed here between Xmas and New Year expecting a quiet relaxing couple of days away without the children. We had paid £150 for a superior room despite on their website saying it was £120 in Dec (after being told that it was more during the Xmas period for some reason).

Started off promising with a large driveway leading up to a very impressive looking hotel from the outside. Whilst walking up to our room we noticed despite a very grand looking staircase that the handrail was hanging off the wall. Despite us arriving at 3pm, there were linen room doors open and various items that the cleaners had left lying around, throughout the dingy corridors. Our room was old fashioned and grubby like the rest of the building, and it was absolutely freezing! Rang the receptionist who told us that heating was on a timer but she'd put it on for us! At £150 a night, I think the least you can expect when you arrive is a warm room in the middle of Winter! The bathroom had some mould on the tiles and there were tiles missing from either side of the toilet. There were some items of rubbish left underneath the tv stand so it obviously wasn't cleaned to a high standard.

Decided to go and use the pool and spa whilst the heating warmed up - what a joke. The changing rooms were filthy and appalling. The pool was tiny and full of children diving in and out of it including the jacuzzi. There were fully clothed adults with their shoes on standing alongside it. Ok, this is not the hotel's fault that the guests were not hygenic but they could have somebody to keep an eye on what is going on in there, considering it is advertised as a Spa hotel. We were expecting to go and have a relax but that was impossible so didn't stay in there for more than 15 mins before we made a quick getaway.

Had booked for dinner, but after seeing the overpriced menu and having a drink in the bar we cancelled. Again children running riot throughout the bar area, which incidentally was very outdated with not very pleasant surroundings. We went to the Dial Inn just at the end of the road and had a fabulous meal there instead.

The bed was awful - woke up with terrible backache. The breakfast itself was nice, not much choice but ok, but it was like being in somebody's sitting room at a wake! It was too quiet and formal and also the waitress appeared to not speak a word of English so she showed us the plates so we could choose which was our cooked breakfast. We couldn't wait to get out of there so left earlier than checkout time.

We stayed at the Lamphey Court for one night in August during a walking tour of Wales. This was one of the most expensive places we stayed and not even close to the nicest.

From the website you might think this is a luxury hotel. Not so. I had to laugh that they have a helicopter pad--if you can afford to arrive by helicopter choose a better hotel than this one! The exterior is quite impressive, but on walking through the front door you get a sense that it has been many years since anything was done to the interior.

Our room was just above the front entrance overlooking the parking lot, but with a nice view beyond through a pasture and to the small church in Lamphey. Noise in this room was a problem because a large party stood out on the front terrace talking loudly after a late dinner--we could hear every word echoing right into our window. In the morning staff talking on the front terrace woke us.

The room was small, furniture old and worn, carpet dingy. The bedspread looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.

A plus: the bathtub was clean and a great deep soaking tub, which is a nice treat after a long day's walk.

Food in the restaurant was good, not extraordinary. The bar is not staffed adequately.

If you get a really cheap rate this hotel is probably worth it--convenient to various locations on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path--but don't pay a lot of money. They need a serious interior renovation before they achieve the "luxury four-star status" they claim.

Stayed at Lamphey Court as I could use my Nectar points so I was therefore limited to Best Western Hotels, which wasn't a great start.

The hotel looks simply stunning with well tended grounds and a stunning vista. However the interior of the hotel is somewhat tired and would perhaps do better with a limited refurbishment.

Area's such as the bar and dining room require new furniture as the old chairs are uncomfortable and unsightly. Also having to constantly ask at reception for another drink from the bar is diconcerting, happened everytime we went in. The conservatory is very old fashioned and tired.

The room we were given was average and overlooking the car park. The initial female receptionist seemed quite turse and pointed out that we only had a standard room as "we were on Nectar points and would have to pay extra for a larger room ! " I wasn't looking for an upgrade just a room that didn't look over the car park. Later on the male receptionist was much more helpful, however the room he gave us was far to dark and small so we stayed where we were. We learned to regret our decision though as at 7 am the extractors directly below us started in the kitchen and gave us an early morning alarm call we did not request. STAY AWAY FROM THE ROOMS NUMBERED 1 to 4 unless you are an early riser.

Dinner was satisfactory that night, but breakfast was delicious service was pleasant and swift and the quality of the cooked breakfast was superb.

Outside of the hotel I can recommend The Blue Ball restaurant in Tenby. The staff are incredibly kind, the food is immpecable and the bill was a huge surprise. Just excellent value and quality 10/10

Walk down to Lamphey train station (10 mins walk from the hotel and £2.40 single, )enjoy a drink at the Lamphey Hall Hotel and catch the train to Tenby as parking is a nightmare. We had a great evening for our anniversary. Oh yes while I think on when I told our female receptionist this was our anniversary i got a look as if to say AAANNNDDD !!

I was glad that I did use my points and only payed £90 per night as if I had been paying full price I would have complained strongly.

Overall:

Hotel Exterior: Excellent
Hotel Interior: Tired
Staff: OK
Value: Poor (Thank God fror Nectar Points)
Return: No

The outside of the hotel was impressive and the location and view beautiful - countryside, sheep in pasture. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The room was sub-standard - dark, lining of curtains torn, small TV. My 5 year old slept on the floor rather than the pull-out couch - the mattress was atrocious. Housekeeping was not up to par - left cleaning supplies in our room, didn't have the room cleaned until 4pm one day, towels not nicely folded. The towels, although clean, were tired.

Saw this hotel on the internet and liked the description and pictures. Arrived after a 3 hour drive to be directed to our room in the coach house. Quite a dark dismal interior. My wife asked at reception if there was an alternative and was shewn 3 similar but worse rooms, one had the wallpaper pealing off the wall. Beds that night were very damp. Shower hose sprayed everywhere, bathroom about 1.5 mtr wide. Decided to check out after a bad breakfast, cold scrambled eggs and none of the tables cleared. Had booked 4 nights @ £184 dbb per night. Receptionist very helpful on checkout and arranged an immediate refund apart from £84.
