“Clean and efficient - fantastic value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We stayed at this hotel overnight and were very impressed, we would have expected to pay twice the rate. Check in was quick and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable and the sofa bad had already been made up for our two children. Everything worked although the room thermostat was a bit confusing! The complimentary breakfast was more than we had expected. The coffee however was poor. The lounge/breakfast area was airy and relaxed which encouraged us all to linger after having our breakfast.

Had to wait to check in as the staff were both busy serving at the bar. The room (409) was a twin bed & the bed was good. The room seemed slightly smaller than a Premier inn room.
The evening meal was a dreadfull experience. I had to wait over one hour for a not very nice microwaved fish pie. When I complained I was told that they were busy. No apology. If I had been told that there would be a long wait I would have gone elswhere to eat.
This was more expensive than either Premier Inn or Express Holiday Inn, but it does not deliver the extra quality or service to warrant that position.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night and we were absolutely delighted. The staff were extremely polite, friendly and welcoming. The room was very well appointed and the best very comfortable. The only negative was that on the website it states there is a bath but we only had a shower in our room and we were looking forward to a bath. There was a good choice of hot and cold food at breakfast. The hotel is in a very good location.

Excellent value, rooms were well decorated and I particularly liked the standard of fixtures and fittings in the bathroom. A mini fridge would have been nice and took it to a new level. Have booked again for next week, it definitely has all the home comforts I'm looking for. Well done Hilton.

Have to say was really pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It suited us as we have family in Wales and for us the location was good but I can understnd the views from other guests about the actual location of the hotel seeming a little odd off the motorway far from anywhere else. There was also a fair amount of roadworks in place which made for a bizarre entrance into the hotel and resulted in me having to drive round the roundabout twice and back on myself.

However, in comparison to the usual and typical Hilton brand I thought the Hampton much better. The entrance was clean and modern looking. It still feels fairly new. We were warmly welcomed and provided with the usual hotel info. Our room was plenty big enough for both my husband and I and our two small children. One observation, our kids are 2 and 3 and I found the sofa bed when made, to be a little dangerous - the framework protrudes down the sides, there's a bit of a gap and some sharp metal. But we just took the mattress off and made the bed up on the floor.

Bathroom was lean and minimal too.

We met a friend at the hotel who having seen our room and how cheap it was to stay, also decided to stay rather than drive back, the cost being so reasonable.

The only issue we had was at dinner. The menu is simple and short - it has to be to provide these kind of prices but if something is not available then there really is very little choice, as happened to us. It was a v quiet evening with only 2 other diners yet the food took forever to come, the starter came after the main and they didn't have one of our orders. The same when ordering dessert.

We had a really comfortable stay - we did not experience any noise from within or outside the hotel. Again for the price breakfast was good - after all it's included with your stay. The kids ate well and good variety of cereal and cooked breakfast.

Check out was quick and simple. They have a number of Welsh themed gifts available in the reception which were a great idea for my two little ones.

So aside from maybe making the menu a little more appetising and improving customer service at dining times this hotel is fantastic value for money if you're looking for a stop over into Wales. Especially with children - where else can you stay these days for 49 quid, free parking and breakfast included, wifi in clean modern facilities.

We will deffo be booking again for our return trips to Wales.

We found this hotel through T/a it was very clean and tidy the rooms were very well fitted out and the staff we helpful and friendly, there was ample parking and it was easy to find from the M4.The food was the only let down breakfast was ok the bacon could have done with a bit longer in the oven and on the second morning we didnt make it down untill 9.30 and it ended at 10.00 so there wasnt much left to choose from and staying on food the evening meal menu was limited to 3/4 items and when it came out it was a microwave meal basicly ,such a let down ! one other problem was no decent beer at the bar i mean come on you have some fantastic beer in wales step up to the mark please.
please dont let the food problem put you off its a great hotel we would revisit but wouldnt eat here.

i've been to a lot of hotels, but none have come close to matching the hampton's frontline staff for friendliness & willingness to oblige.all of them were excellent but one in particular was outstanding- a girl named lauren.we arrived late & one of our party had run out of cigarettes.the nearest shop was not within walking distance.lauren drove to the shop for them.hearing that we'd been ripped off by an airport taxi company she arranged a much better rate with a local outfit.they however turned us down as we needed a 6.45 pick-up.so lauren collected us on a dark, wet february morning, which also happened to be her day off!
it was a 60km round trip for lauren.this obviously made a terrible location for us,courtesy of our lying b...tard travel company.i'm assured it is strategically sited for business clients who need someplace adjacent to cardiff, newport & bristol.the rooms are spacious, clean & reasonably priced.it is,however, in a uniquely horrible location.it affords views of an ugly office building,a factory comlplex of especially nasty aspect & a derelict site strewn with all manner rusting & otherwise unsightly detritus.
the bar is open 24/7 which increases my esteem for the hampton.
it is a real pity that the hotel is sited in a landscape which recalls wartime beirut, because there is much to like about it- above all, the staff.
