“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2011

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for valentines day and absolutly loved it! the staff were friendly and informative and the deluxe room was HUGE! the hotel itself has a great atmosphere and all the staff seemed friendly and warm. The breakfast was great and we were waited on hand and foot! i really would reccomend staying here, its abit pricey but you get your moneys worth

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe

well what can i say, Ruthin Castle is fantastic . We Stayed on a sunday on the Castle escape break deal.It cost £99 and was well worth the money stay inc 3 course al a carte dinner in berties restaurant, full cooked breakfast and a delux room!. Room [211].
The hotel is stunning, every where is immaculate and the grounds are fabulous. The Staff are fantastic and could not do enough for you,
The peacocks are amazing and little rabbits running about eveywhere.Berties restaurant is absolutey fabulous and the food is amazing. The waitresses were excellent and service was second to none.
My only gripe was the bed in the room it was 2 twin beds zipped together. Not a double.Apparentley this is standard in the delux rooms. You could still feel the gap in middle of the beds.the 2 twin beds were huge though and very comfortable.Would of liked a proper double bed and would of expected this in the delux rooms.
Ruthin Castle is a great place to stay and you feel very special staying there hope to return soon.

My partner and I had a brilliant stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we felt that they were more like friends. We both felt at home even though we were staying in a castle with peacocks in the grounds. Food was inexpensive in the bar, good quality, various selctions for all and generous helpings. Our room was a good size, warm and inviting.

This hotel was close enough to visit Chester, Colwyn, Llandudno - all this within half an hour drive away.

We both felt totally relaxed in this hotel and would be very happy to return.

We booked a room at the castle on a Friday because we wanted to attend the Medieval banquet we had read great reviews about. Unfortunately, they did not have a banquet that night and did not inform us until a week before our arrival. We had inquired on the banquet a couple months in advance, without an answer. There were several weddings going on instead.

We didn't book one of the expensive rooms, so maybe they are better. Our room was definitely showing it's wear and tear. It was in need of a facelift. It's not the worst place, but not what we expected in a castle stay, although it was a good value. Actually the entire place is in need of a deep cleaning and a facelift.

If you aren't attending the banquet then just skip Ruthin altogether - it's not worth going out of your way.

My husband and I have just had two wonderful days and nights at Ruthin Castle as guests at my sister and brother in laws wedding last week.

After a very efficient and friendly check in we were given keys to our room on the first floor – Room 214. The room was amazing! A huge room, tastefully decorated, TV, tea/coffee and a very large bed! The bathroom was equally well equipped. Lifts to the room are in the old ‘cage’ type – very novel!

The hotel is beautifully decorated through out, no more so than Berties restaurant where we dined the first night. Due to there being about 30 of us in the wedding party we had been asked to pre-order our meals which ensured all the meals arrived on time, hot and well presented by friendly staff.

The hotel has a small, but well equipped exercise room, Elemis spar and full size snooker table, which unfortunately for us we didn’t have time to use!

As there were a number of us, we were given a very well informed guided tour of the castle grounds which re-iterated the importance of the building in its day. This is a must if you can.

After an absolutely beautiful wedding day, we completed the evening in medieval style! The hotel works with a company from Corwen that provides fantastic costumes ready for the medieval evening! The medieval banquet hall in the hotel is brilliant – and what an experience that night was! Food is served by three fantastic ladies that also provide the most enjoyable singing I have heard in a long time. The meal consisted of soup (no spoon, of course!), followed by lamb shank (knife provided!), then chicken, baked spud and trimmings. As you would expect with a medieval banquet there was also a very entertaining Jester!!

Ruthin itself is a lovely little town just a few minutes walk from the Castle and if you get the opportunity, the old Ruthin Gaol is well worth a visit.

All in all we would highly recommend the castle and can truly understand why my sister booked it for her wedding!

We visited Ruthin castle for 3 nights and stayed in the delux double with meals included. To start with the room was gorgeous, I saw a couple of normal doubles which were ample but the delux double which we were upgraded to was a huge room with lots of character and made you feel like you were somewhere very special when waking up in the morning - I had a sneaky peak at some of the larger rooms as well and if you have a bit of extra cash or its a special occasion then do it as these were something like small apartments! The restaurant where we ate every evening is set in a beautiful room with views of the garden, very intimate but classy as well with stunning chandeliers and grand piano - to top it off the food was very good indeed and service second to none! The castle itself was rich with character which made us feel quite special to be staying there. Equal to the interior the grounds were stunning with several peacocks providing good company wherever you went - a nice touch! Opposite the castle grounds is an old stone circle with terrific views of the valley, we sat here one afternoon with an ice bucket wine and nibbles with a feeling of bliss!
I could go on but in fear of writing a novel i will finish here but not before I thank all the staff who were lovely and very helpful with every request we made - in my book the staff and how they behave is a big part of any stay and Ruthin certainly holds standards very high in this department - a special thanks to Gareth as well who definitely went that extra mile on a few occasions Thanks Gareth, i hope they appreciate your good work!

Stayed for 3 nights at this hotel and was very satisfied with everything we experienced here. Friendly efficient staff and enjoyed a lovely large room overlooking the castle walls and gardens and a view of the Welsh hills in the background.
The hotel had a wedding on each of the days we were here but it was never a problem as there are more than enough private areas for functions that would not disturb other guests.
The restaurant which boasts 2 AA rosettes lived up to its reputation in every way with good service and an excellent menu. The food we were served was first class from an obviously imaginative chef.
definitely stay here again.
