“ROOM 12”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2011

I have stayed at the Trearddur Bay Hotel a number of times and always been completely
satisfied - that is until my last visit When I was given Room 12. Dark, dingy with a view over an asphalt roof on which rested a plank of wood proped up against the roof.
There was no table lamp, just 2 lights over beds and a centre light (about 40 watt).
I felt extremely let down, and I had paid full price - more fool me .
I know this hotel is popular, but management should not use this as an excuse for
NOT redecorating. I shall be more wary next time - if there is a next time!!!

The hotel is in a fantastic spot right next to the beach and a great starting point for walks and only a mile away from the stables for riding. The staff on reception where always friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel on the friday and the food was ok, but not good value for money. We ate in the bar on the saturday and the staff where not interested and you felt like they wanted you in and out as quick as possible. Food was ok.
At breakfast on the sunday when the hotel was busy, the cooked breakfast (bacon, sausages, etc) ran out and it took ages for these to be replaced.
Overall a great location, but food could be better for evening meals and service could be sharper for breakfast and in the attached bar.

Have stayed here on and off over the years, it was once great. The location is fantastic and sea view rooms worth the extra. But it is now dated and in need of serious upgrade to return to the glory days. Very limited competition hence the price I think.
Have been staying at other B&B locations recently, much better value and standards. It was full when we went so restricted our choice.
Still a fantastic area for long weekends.

Great service, staff were attentive, book a table at the restaurant as it was fully booked both nights! We ate in the bar, service was quick and the food was okay but forgettable. Large double room was worth paying extra for, the view of the bay from the balcony is world class. The room was dated and the bath though large was designed by Torquemada for use in the spanish inquisition. Local young people had a face off in the bar which was quickly and quietly quelled by staff. Overall good but could be excellent.

We were travelling back to Dublin via Holyhead and we were looking for somewhere nice to stay and we had nearly given up when we came across this lovely Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and the beds comfortable - decor was a bit dated. We had dinner in the restaurant that night and it was so yummy. We were served bread that was the nicest bread we have ever eaten, warm, tasty and lovely crust. My husband had mussels done in a garlic and mushroom sauce for starter and I was only too happy to help him eat them. We both had sea bass for our main course and it too was just perfect, served with a selection of beautifully cooked mixed veg and potatoes. We would love to have had some dessert but the bread had been so nice we had no room left! The hotel is nestled on a lovely bay with a very nice promenade perfect for walking after the great food and it is only about 10 miles from Holyhead and is a perfect place to stay for the ferry

This was a fine business meeting hotel, with good conference facilities but the rest of the hotel is in serious need of refurbishment. The bedroom floors creaked, the lights kept failing and the furniture & fittings dated back to the 1950s; especially the grubby carpets and lino.
The food was excellent in the evenings, but why was one forced to wait outside a pretty empty dining room "if you haven't reserved"? Pretentious or what? In the mornings fried or poached eggs were brought to you and you then had to walk back to a separate room to pick up any other items; bacon etc. The instruction on the restaurant door that use of laptops and mobile phones was forbidden was a tad ironic; given that Radio 2 was blasting out loud enough to drown conversation! I got the impression that single guests (under the age of 83) on business were considered a bit of a nuisance and treated to surly service from the lead restaurant staff; compared with the elderly couples (regulars?) on holidays. The junior staff were most pleasant which made up for being treated like a leper.

I was a member of a prty of 20 staying in the Trearddur Bay Hotel for a week. The hotel is quietly situated with good views, and the rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, though some were a little short on drawer space for a week's stay, and some are quite a long way from reception through a maze of corridors and stairs. The food was excellent and the service superb. The staff were extremely helpful at all times, and everyone in our group was full of praise for the hotel. One slight problem was that when we all arrived back and headed en masse for baths, the water supply sometimes failed for a few minutes. However it always recovered, and there was plenty of hot water. I'd love to go and stay there again.
