The Anglesey Tourist Board should congratulate itself on having a place like this on the island. Plas Rhianfa has the potential to be the very best of Welsh Rarebits. Location, facilities, and the people are all first class. The staff were professional, friendly and courteous, and in particular Lucy on reception. The vision of the ownership and management is to create chateau themed luxury and have clearly invested heavily to achieve this. However there are a number of contradictions in their offering that stand in the way of their aims. The reviewer who highlighted the stained stair carpet is right. Upon arrival it was our first impression that the choice of a light beige single colour stair covering was a big mistake in such a heavily used area. The communal evening dining experience is fine if you like that kind of thing, but the absence of other in-house options needs to be considered. If dining with strangers isn't your thing or you prefer something lighter (and less expensive) you have to drive elsewhere. Breakfast was a big disappointment. Self serve full english (or welsh in this case) from covered hot plates never works, and is just not appropriate for a 4/5 star location and help yourself tea and coffee from flasks is a no-no. However these shortcomings did not detract from a very enjoyable stay and we will return. We did mention our reservations to Martin the general manager who showed an understanding that adjustments in certain areas were needed and are being addressed.
