“Very special place...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

What a secert gem...
The setting is in the middle of the unspoilt Isle of Anglesey and the hotel is surrounded by the most amazing gardens.
The staff, from arrival to departure were fantastic, and the food was just to die for,and what a spa, at certain times of the day the spa was almost empty,it felt like our own.
A return visit and another is already planned .

Have recently returned from our second visit to Anglesey and as before stayed at the Tre-Ysgowan Hotel, and enjoyed our stay equally as much as we did the first time. From our arrival to our departure everything was perfect. The hotel is of a very high standard with a staff to match and complemented with a chef with exceptional skill. We are looking forward to our next visit to Anglesey and this Hotel.

We had a really good weekend on a Groupon deal. we eat in the two restaurants on successive evenings and found the food and service to be of good quality. The staff were really helpful and tried their best to make our trip enjoyable. We were particularly impressed by the lady receptionist in the Spa who was really helpful and pleasant. We will be back soon!!!!!!

Lovely setting very quiet. The reception staff were very helpful , it was just a shame we had an initial problem with our room. It was very dark and had a lovely view of a white brick wall then we turned on the lights and no lights. I went to reception and they didn't hesitate to show us two alternative rooms so we moved and were very happy. The evening meal was excellent as were the breakfasts and the staff could not do enough for you I rang down for more milk and tea bags which were delivered promptly with a smile.
We used the swimming pool and spa facilities but were a very disappointed that we couldn't have any treatments as they were fully booked I think that some appointments should be reserved for guests on arrival as you don't always know what you want until you arrive.
On the whole a very enjoyable stay in a very tranquil setting

Many thanks for your review and I am glad the team looked after you. I will pass your comments about treatments so the spa manager it's just difficult to have staff on duty for no purpose and we do advise in all confirmation that it is recommended to book in advance to avoid dissapointment. We hope to see you again

The hotel is in a tranquil setting - far away from nearest town. On entry it is a well maintained country house. The spa area has been added but is in keeping with the older house. The gardens are beautiful with sculptures that catch the eye. We didn't venture too far into the grounds as it was wet underfoot after the recent storms but we hope to go exploring on our next visit. On arrival at reception we were welcomed and shown to our room. The room was clean and cosy - all décor was in keeping with a country house. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The toiletries were of a high quality. We had a look around the house and were delighted with the rooms. The library is very pleasant to sit in and there was a real fire in there. Couldn't help but imagine myself as a Downton cast member! The room used for breakfast is breathtaking as are the hall and main stairs. The Clock Tower bar and restaurant is modern (so the customer gets the best of both worlds). We found the service in all areas reception, breakfast and Clock Tower to be courteous and good. The food was delicious. The clock tower is expensive but good quality food. We were pleased as the breakfast is cooked to order and there's real toast made with good quality bread. The room would benefit from an armchair - there was a straight back chair but its nice to sit in a comfy chair - one in the room would do. Overall we were pleased with our visit and hope to return. Thank you Tre-Ysgawen Hall, Country House Hotel

Booked afternoon tea for our friends birthday - very disappointed - 2 finger style sandwiches each - salmon and other was cucumber. Lots of cakes but big cut chunks of lemon cake, chocolate cake (both cakes very dry) plus large scones (bought in not homemade) which again where very heavy. Never had an afternoon tea like it before usually small cakes and an assortment of sandwiches. Shame as hotel looked very nice and staff where polite and attentive.

Thank you for taking the time to review. I am sorry you found your afternoon tea to be dissapointing and after speaking with the head chef and changing things it has improved. So much so our booking have increased. So we do hope that you will consider visiting us again in the near future

I have used the Spa in this beautiful hotel many times and find it very relaxing. The Clock Tower restaurant serves lovely food and the two ladies who work there are always helpful and polite, nothing is too much trouble

The two gripes I have about this Spa are:

The treatments never last the length of time stated in the brochure, some being 10 minutes short. I have put this on my feedback form three times now but nothing seems to have been done about it.

If paying with a voucher and your treatment is less than the value of the voucher, they do not give you change or even a credit note to use in the Spa or restaurant. I handed a voucher in to pay for a treatment (which they knew about when I booked over the phone). The receptionist said she would sort it out for me and off I went for my treatment. When I returned and asked for the difference she said that they don't give change from a voucher. This should be explained over the phone when you book your treatment and when you arrive at the Spa.

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding you first point of treatment timings, I am very committed to regular training to ensure that treatment timings are as advertised. I should point out that over the last 2 years or so, all of our treatment timings have changed and most treatments are now 25 mins or 50 minutes where they may have been an hour in the past. However all treatment times are advertised and this is something that I will again address with all of our therapists.

On your second point, yes you are right that this should have been explained to you upon booking. Any additional funds remaining from a voucher can be used for additional treatment and we do also allow you to purchase products. Please accept my apologies for this oversight.
