“Glorious views, faded grandeur”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed here after booking sight unseen via Booking.com during the drive up from south Wales. I've never been to north Wales or Anglesey before and was knocked out by how pretty it was. The hotel was originally built for a visit by Princess Victoria, later Queen, so is suitably grand, and it looks out onto the lovely Menai Strait. Make a careful note of where your room is, as you can quite easily get as bit lost. It's also the only hotel/pub where you can sit directly on the front looking out over the water,

I have one gripe - we hoped to enjoy a relaxing drink in the lounge bar after a very long drive, but this wasn't to be. In the bar was a family with a roughly two year-old child who clearly ruled the roost and monopolised the whole area very noisily, to the detriment of the other guests. It was 9pm and most hotels and bars I've used have a no-child policy after 8pm. The little lad was clearly over-tired and needed to be taken home, but when I asked at reception, by this time well after 9pm, if they could have a word, I was told a blunt no. A no-child policy after 8pm in the adult drinking areas would make many people's stay a more enjoyable one.

On 23rd July 2013, we had lunch at The Bistro, The Bulkeley Hotel, Beaumaris. Everything was very good and the Staff Members, Bethan and Lorraine looked after us very well. The Food was hot, of a very good standard and arrived promptly. We only ate at The Bistro at The Bulkeley, but the whole establishment had a nice friendly ambiance about it. A drink on the patio/garden area of The Bulkeley, that has fine views of the sea is also a nice location.

This review is not actually about the hotel itself as I did not use anything there other than the therapist. Melanie provides body and beauty treatments within the hotel itself. I was on holiday nearby and decided to treat myself to a full body massage. The cost was £30 which I thought was reasonable, I was asked questions regarding my health which is standard procedure and given explanation of what she would do and queried with me as to a firm or gentle massage. Melanie was absolutely brilliant and I can vouch for a very good massage, would definitely say book treatments with this lady. Well worth it.

Everytime I visit Beaumaris I always go into the Bulkeley Hotel for a drink or something to eat.
Beautiful hotel always glamarous and gracious. Staff always excellent with very good customer
service skills. Plenty of helpful information available for travellers on places of interest both
on Angelsey and North Wales. Views from the back of the Hotel are really superb across the
Straits and you have all the amenities of Beaumaris infront of you when you step out of the hotel. It is always a pleasure to visit this beautiful outstanding hotel. Just had a refreshing drink this time but have had excellent food in the past. Look forward to my next visit. Thank you Bulkeley for always being so wonderful and charming and for being the place I always go to on Angelsey.

The staff were really good, the food was excellent. During our stay the weather was superb so we could sit outside and enjoy there wonderful gardens. We took a trip over to Puffin Island on the Island Princess and saw seals, puffins and lots of other birds. Quite a few jelly fish were spotted in the sea off the pier whilst we where crab fishing. Fantastic scenery from our front facing room - even saw the lifeboat get called out. Excellent holiday, came with Johnson's Coaches from Henley in Arden and I would love to go again

Room Tip: Room 122 front facing

We haven't stayed in a room here but, if efficient communications and great afternoon tea is anything to go by, we are sure that we wouldn't be disappointed!

We were invited to a special birthday celebration on Saturday and that is where we enjoyed the lovely afternoon tea. Leading up to this, we enjoyed a well-kept pint of 'Brains Dark' ale.

Prior to all that, we communicated with the hotel (via email initially) in order to purchase some Bulkeley Hotel gift vouchers as our present for the special birthday 'boy'. Several members of staff were involved in these communications and (each time) the email was responded to with speed and efficiency - always a good sign.

On Saturday, our vouchers were waiting for us to collect at Reception. We really enjoyed our visit. There is excellent outside seating for drinking/eating and that is all topped off with superb views. There is a Coffee Shop; Bistro; and Restaurant so there is something for everyone's tastes. We will keep the Hotel in mind for the future.

Llinos, our coffee shop manager, has recently altered the afternoon tea menu providing a delicious range of cakes and sandwiches therefore we were very glad to read your review on how much you enjoyed it. I will pass on the comments to her. Thankyou.

We stopped here for 2 nights for a wedding. The view from the room was great and the bed comfortable. The bathroom did have a faint whiff of drain which is the only criticism I might have, however, this was in the bathroom only. All of the staff were really friendly, the wedding was great and we had a fantastic weekend.
