The somewhat lengthy drive down the farm track was more than compensated for by the tranquil, rural setting and the pleasing sight of the large farmhouse that we parked alongside on our arrival. We were warmly greeted by the very friendly proprietor (and farmer's wife), Annwen. My beloved, her mother and I were shown to our rooms and left to decide who wanted which room. Both were double rooms, with the one just having single person occupancy for us, as there were no single rooms. Both rooms were very large, clean and tastefully decorated to the highest standard. Both rooms had a large en-suite with absolutely fantastic power showers – quite the best bathroom (and shower) that I’ve ever seen in a B & B (or hotel, for that matter). There was a T.V. as well as tea and coffee making facilities in the room (we were offered fresh milk on our arrival rather than the usual UHT stuff). A folder telling us about the farm, local attractions and places to eat (complete with menus) was a nice, and very useful, touch. The (king-sized) bed was comfortable and extra bedclothes (which we didn't need) were available in the large wardrobes.
The breakfast was the best I have ever eaten in a B & B (and I have stayed in many)!!! There was a choice of cereals, prunes, grapefruit segments, fruit juice, fresh fruit and yoghurt to start with. Orders for the cooked breakfast were taken – on each of the three mornings I opted for the full breakfast, which consisted of a couple of rashers of bacon (from the local butcher), scrambled egg (from the farm), a sausage (also from the local butcher), mushrooms, tomato, fried bread, black pudding and baked beans – all of which was perfectly cooked. All this was accompanied by toast (brown and /or white bread) and as much tea or coffee as we wanted. Annwen was always congenial and attentive but never intrusive – her local knowledge and information that she shared with us was most helpful. On the last morning, we had the pleasure of being served by her delightful, young daughter. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome in this beautiful family home. Perhaps, the over-riding thing that made our stay so special was the attention to detail in all aspects – from the décor, the standard of equipment and fittings, to the extra little touches at breakfast. Having stayed at many B & B's in the past, I can confidently say that none have been better than this one – the whole experience was truly exquisite!!!
