“Truly excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

On an overnight business visit, one of our party could not arrive until well after 11pm, yet Elaine stayed up to welcome him and then, on hearing that we had to check out before 8am, arranged that she and the chef would come in especially early so that we could have breakfast. This amazingly kind and helpful service was apparent throughout our short stay. Dinner was excellent, using local ingredients, and the breakfast bacon was perfect - obviously locally sourced and not the usual pumped full of water, tastless stuff. The room had everything one could wish for, was beautifully presented and immaculately clean. I was only sorry we couldn't think of an excuse to stay longer.

We were welcomed by very friendly staff, given a guided tour including rooms available, and choose room number one. Immaculate. Nothing was too much trouble and breakfast the next morning was lovely.

Room Tip: From what we saw room number one was the best room - and the receptionist agreed.

Visited Lastra Farm as part of a group for a family members birthday recently and whilst food was good as title says service let it down somewhat. It was busy for a saturday evening with a mixture of parties and couples and there were only a couple of waiting staff which didnt seem nearly enough for the amount of diners. There was a couple of mistakes with members of the parties orders, however they chose to continue with their meals rather than wait for fresh to be cooked. My food was nice, however a couple of the party said their meals were ok but nothing special. The resturant seemed to fill early on in the evening which would indicate that they are popular with the locals however it became very stuffy and hot very quickly and as we were only in April I would imagine it be even worse during the summer months.

As a regular visitor to Anglesey i always try and visit Lastra Farm for a meal, the food is all cooked fresh with local produce and very good value, i have never had a bad meal here. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. Best restaurant on the Island.

We stayed for 3 nights in March, the week before the Easter holidays, and so it was a quiet period for the hotel. We appreciated that fact as from the very friendly welcome to the immaculately clean room to the superb food, we received first class attention and service. The free bottle of wine in the room on arrival was an extremely good touch and the coffee and tea making facilities were replenished daily. The bathroom was immaculate and there were thick, fresh, clean towels each day.The bed was comfortable, sheets crisp and clean and the furnishings tasteful. The food was superb, especially the sea bass which we can fully recommend! We had two evening meals in the conservatory dining room and one in the hotel dining room, which we preferred. The same situation applied to the breakfasts and again, we preferred to eat the ample breakfasts in the more comfortable surroundings of the hotel dining room.
We can fully recommend this fine hotel with its beautiful situation and huge car park. Do not dine anywhere else in the evening !!

Room Tip: Book a superior room (Room 1) in the hotel. We cannot speak about the Gatehouse because we did not s...

As (almost) every other reviewer says, this is a great place to stay - comfortable accommodation, fair prices (ours was a 'Spring Break' offer, with unexpected chocs and wine included !), and very good food indeed. We stayed in the main building, so can't comment on the 'gatehouse' about which others have written enthusiastically. We had a 'family suite' (room five) - two bedrooms joined by their (shared) en-suite bathroom/shower - and very nice it was, too with views over the garden to the road, and beyond to the 'gatehouse', a short walk away.
Of the three dinners and three breakfasts we consumed, two dinners were from an 'early bird' menu with fixed-pricing, and were excellent value. On our final evening, we chose from the main menu, paid a little more and, apart from a wider choice, had the same great quality food. Drinks prices seemed more modest than most hotels - and there were non-dining drinkers ijn the bar, too - a good sign. Car parking is free and plentiful (for the modest size of the hotel) and, even on the two evenings when there were 'clubs' meeting in the conservatory dining-room, there still seemed adequate space.
Two minor concerns: one very minor, indeed, and that's 'signage' which would benefit from improvement, or even provision in some places. 'Bedrooms' might be sensible on one of the two solid doors from the Reception area leading, as it does, to a steep staircase to all bedrooms in that building (the less-ambulant should note). At right-angles to this unmarked door is another similarly-blank door, which leads down two steps (unsigned) into the (smaller) dining-room, so 'Dining Room' or something similar on this one, and something warning about the steps, too?
More of a concern is that both these solid doors led to (very) minor collisions during our stay: on one occasion, I was hit by the opening door from the dining-room, and on another, I hit someone else with the 'bedrooms' door as I opened it into the Reception area. No real damage, but worth some attention. (The other staircase from bedrooms to the bar area is glazed which helps.)
Would we go again? You bet, if only to solve the mystery of the sauce on the spaghetti under the salmon, which recipe I didn't manage to obtain this year - and which I am commanded to prepare and provide at home !

Room Tip: If you have ANY mobility concerns, telephone and discuss them: all the staff we met were very custom...

We visited the restaurant on Saturday night to celebrate my Husbands Birthday with family. Having visited several times before we were disappointed on this occasion.
There didn't seem enough staff on as we were ushered straight to the table. No bread etc on the table (other tables had it on, but we didn't and wern't asked either).
Good menu available with locally sourced food where possible. No specials, or at least we wern't offered them.
When the meals arrived my Husband had chosen fillet steak, but had sirloin, but by the time a waitress was available he had decided to eat it anyway or his meal would have been much delayed.
My Mother in Law had ordered fillet steak with a Diane sauce on the side, it was served 'in' the sauce, not really a problem but not what she'd ordered.
All in all it was 'ok' but we had organised it specially as we visit the island every week and wanted somewhere a bit special rather than a pub. Unfortunately, the meal we had the previous night in a pub was much nicer - and cheaper!
Not the staffs fault entirely but the owners need to employ more at busy periods as people won't go back.
We were intending to book again for this coming weekend for a large party of friends to continue his Birthday celebrations but have chosen another restaurant after our experience.
